This is what is going on with me right now as we speak.
I work as a machine operator in PA, 12 hours a week, twice a week. After I'm done, I literally hop on my truck, and haul the produce we made to NY state.
That alone is netting me +2k a week ($800 machine operator, $1,275 trucking), working two 17 hour days, twice a week. Most people would be content, but I figure me being 25, I wanted more and just tried anything to make a quick buck.
My company had a huge argument with the distributor, and we are pretty much done with them almost entirely, we are little by little taking everything. The company decided to do it's own distribution, at first they just hired drivers, then I convinced them to "sell" the routes to owner operators. The company would buy them a Sprinter, small cabover boxtruck or whatever seemed fit, and they would distribute their owned territory.
The company was a little hesitant, but they quickly change their mind, when I got them people offering them 125k for the "rights" to do the route. Granted, it was not all in one lump sum, it was 50k down at least. Before I'm asked, they are not being ripped off, each one of those owner operator nets$1,300-$1,700 a week working just 20 hours a week. A bargain if you ask me.
They ended up paying me 15k commission for each one. We have sold 3, and have 4 more to sell... needless to say, I'm happy.
As an added bonus, I got a route for free, I finance a 2013 Reefer sprinter van and decided to take another chance at the roulette, it worked, I'm netting $1,500 weekly on average.
Most people would be dead happy to be making $3,700 a week, but I'm getting tired... literally.
I've spent these pass 3 weeks sleeping and resting on my only day off.
Yeah I'm making serious money, but I'm going to a point where a month passes and I'm not even noticing what day it is, I've been sleeping in my truck (never did that before) because I dont want to drive back without resting, in the warehouse even.
I was thinking about "selling" my route, but when I asked, it's not mine, I would just get the 15k commission for it. Instead of the 125k I was expecting.
So i would had sold it had it been that way, but since is not, I rather not loose 75k a year, and trade it for a quick 15k.
What do you guys think?

So...if you can't sell "your" route for 125K then how did the other guys "not get ripped off" if they paid 125K for "their" route.

you may want to reference and review the hours of service regs.
If you are working outside the driving, you are required to log that as "on-duty" time. You are earning a living working for someone else.
THEN You are going out and driving AND still on-duty doing loading/unloading and other duties.
All going OVER the 14 hour on-duty clock.
And if you are doing this in the 100 air-mile radius, over the 12 hour clock.

While the others can sell the routes to anyone they like.
I'm good to the company, and they are good to me, I'm close friends with the owner and the manager, but they are not about to give me 125k when THEY could have it instead. -
I think you'll be paying a lot of income taxes!
But it's smart to make hay while the sun shines. -

a pickup can be required to run logs.
And if they aren't, they sure as hell should be required to as it's a commercial operation. -
