when going to orientation with experience

You go through the normal process from what I've seen. Every company is different, but you can generally speaking, count on some form form of written test, a road test and such.

At the end of the day; every mega carrier is the same.

 

No company can put you in a truck without giving you a Road Test and giving you a drug test. They are suppose to have gotten the results of the drug test back before giving you a road test. So, most company orientation are just going through the motion while waiting. They bring out of the motel you are stay in and drop off at their training site. First thing, off for the physical and drug test. It is important to drink plenty of water and not to eat sweets. Many folks fail because of sugar. Then you go to lunch. You are given a hazmat book and a DOT regs book. You have to sign for the DOT book. You then are given any company policy books and have to sign for them. Then you do the tax forms and any insurance forms. Back to the motel. Next day computers. You watch a program and answer questions about them. If you do not get enough answer correct, you repeat until you do. All you are doing is killing time. The drug test are usually back by the second afternoon and you do the road test. The companies are looking to see if your skill level matches your job application. As long as no one is killed you should be hired. You then are assigned either your own truck or a trainer to ride with. If you get your own truck, it will break down. If you have a trainer, he smokes and hasn't taken a shower since the late 80's. At least that has been my experiences at all the orientations I have ever been to.
