I would keep it.
Why swap engines ? Do an in-frame for way less.
I learned a long time ago. Either swap trucks often, like every 3 years, or keep it till it just falls apart. With this newer stuff having SO many problems, I believe keeping and fixing is the better answer.
I have a 2001 F/Liner, bought 7 years ago. I decided to just fix stuff, and not spend the money on a newer ride.Last edited: May 27, 2014

Could use it as a donor truck on a glider kit and save big $$$$. You've got core motor, trans, and rears to swap for reman. Sell the rest of the truck to a salvage yard.

It sounds like he's Canadian so a glider may not be an option if he can't get it registered.

I like the idea of a glider, I've never priced one before, I know I've seen a few guys do them in Canada, seems like a lot of money for not a lot of truck though, the one other thing I also worry about on an old truck is the frame integrity, is it about to crack? Is it already cracked and I just don't know it yet? With a glider what all does the truck come with? I'm guessing the frame, hood, cab and sleeper, figure out the rest yourself?

The truck I run is a glider. It came from factory as a frame, cab front axle and rear suspension. We supplied the engine, tranny, and rears. All were rebuilt, and I believe the owner told me he had 105k I'm everything, which includes assembly at the dealer. That's for a daycab. the same truck with a 48" sleeper was like 15k more. And we don't have emissions crap to break. We also had the engine, tranny and rears from an old truck, so he only had to rebuild what he already had, so if ya gotta buy that stuff, well, you'd be close to the price of a new one

I'd fix it. For what you do I don't think you want a newer model that's just gonna tear up.

With these truck prices maybe I'm in the wrong business...

You know what you have. You know what you need to invest in it to get it in tip top shape, you go out there and buy something off a lot or off someone else you don't know what its been through or what it needs, you really don't know how much you need to invest because their are always little issues that pop up over time. I have contemplated selling this old 92 W9 and upgrading but after driving these new trucks all I can say is no way!! So many issues with sensors, DEF issues, etc. Fix your old girl and get her what she needs, having no payments is profit right there!
