When it's $1.48/mile versus .48/mile why not aspire to be an o/o?

    Palletized van.

The decision was sort of a coin flip. What tipped the scales was the fact that I was able to purchase a road ready truck for $8k, and owning the truck outright gives me much more flexibility and many more options than I had as a company driver. Perqs include being able to get my truck repaired by the company shop at $75/hr labor rate and parts at cost, plus truck rental at $125/day if needed, and purchasing fuel at the company pump at bulk rates. Currently a $.50/gallon discount. And I'm running the same routes that I'm accustomed to.

Plus, I now have the option of running under my own authority if I choose to.

Me? I'd bounce out to a better market before I loaded for less than $2/mile.

4 years ago, I picked up a van load in NW Montana that delivered in the Boston market. $2.40/mile. Don't load cheap freight.

Meh, I'll just sit on the sofa while the truck is getting fixed.

Next week I'll look for a couple of good loads.

I would not have even called on that Boston load.........

We got that in common. I will sit at the house and go fishing down here in Florida for a week while waiting for a decent load.

Interesting. Amazing the knowledge one can accumulate here on the forums.

So these perks you list are some of the perks of leasing on with a company versus being a company driver and driving the companies equipment right?

With this particular company, yes. They're all different.

As a general rule I'd agree you own the truck and you don't have to worry as much about being fired for wanting to take a day here and a week there at home, I do know a guy who makes a habit out of doin 5000 miles a week during cattle run but that's an a different animal entirely

I’m leased on with Schneider, been here 7 yrs. 7 yrs ago I listen to the same argument. But I’m still here. I’ve lasted longer here, than most with their authority.
