When it's $1.48/mile versus .48/mile why not aspire to be an o/o?

Thanks
This I can go along with, Many should be doing better than they are, hopefully it is within their skill set. -
your still sticking your nose up in the air and looking down on people. i agree completely that you need to make a good living if your going to be a owner op/ but to say "you can and should do better than that" is just wrong. to many people having a trailer house on a beautiful piece of farmland is there idea of high heaven even if they have the money "to do better" as you put itCrude Truckin', DSK333, gokiddogo and 2 others Thank this.

Your Probably Right -
What Year did you come in ?Early 80's?
I Had this argument a few years back about a Regulated Industry vs Free Markets........
I was/am a Huge Fan of Regulated Market With Driver Representation- DougA Was a Union owner-Op over 40 Years in a Regulated Market
Good Money For Folks that didn't have the brain power to over Philosiphy People Like you Have to do Today in Free Markets- $2.00 per Mile in 1978 for Hauling Frozen on a 45' Wagon Was Buying your Home early. -
It's not that bad of an idea living in a trailer house. I actually think that's a better investment. I can't get my ole lady to buy into that. It makes sense. It's away from the city, it's quiet, you'll have you some land and other properties, the trailer house itself is cheap so it'll be paid off a hell of a lot faster than a house. I'm not a fan of pouring large sums of money into "day to day living." I don't care what it looks like to the out side man because nobody outside of my family matters anyway. I only concern myself with, "does it do what it needs to do?" If certain OPs had the same thought about buying a truck and working, then they'd be more successful. I'm talking about the ones that buy a lot unnecessary gadgets for the truck(chrome, fancy lighting etc). I can't imagine someone doing that when so much money had to go back into his/her business
DSK333 and Ezrider_48501 Thank this. -
So what does your insurance plates ifta tolls and all cost you per mile? And how much time to track it file it and deal with it all?
-
insurance is 20 bucks a month for bobtail. physical damage on my truck and trailer total 97 dollars a month.
My plates and all permits for this coming year was 1550.
Ifta costs me zero. My carrier tracks it, files it, and pays it. They do not charge back for any tax due, and will credit any overages towards the plates and permits.
Total tolls last year was just over one thousand dollars. Which was more than double what i spent in prior years. However just over 400 of that was reimbursed due to tolls being written into the freight contact with one particular customer that i did quite a few loads for.
Any other questions?Elroythekid Thanks this. -
It takes 30 min to file IFTA.
