When it's $1.48/mile versus .48/mile why not aspire to be an o/o?

Because if you can't fix it, don't do it.

Too be fair you can make money at that rate. But not any more than you can as an employee driver. So basically its the same pay and no benefits just to say "its my truck".

Not worth it then. Perhaps there are some out there getting paid more than $1.48 for whom it is worth it to be able to say at the end of the day "its my truck," but definitely doesn't seem that the o/o route is the holy grail of trucking like perhaps some may think. If you can earn 80-100k as a company driver --like many fuel haulers do-- and get benefits and 401k I'd say that's about as good as it gets in this industry. The only truckers perhaps earning more than to my knowledge are those who haul extra wide loads.

Its the holy grail for some of us. But we don't work for 1.48 a mile.

Common knowledge indicates it costs $1.50 per mile to run a truck.
You'll need $2 per mile to equal a company drivers paycheck, who has absolutely no chance of losing money on a weekly basis.
Weekly payments pretty much guarantees you won't be seeing home.
Lease with a dispatcher, who controls your income?

It doesn't cost a buck fifty to run a truck. At least not any of the trucks I've owned over the last 23 years.

If you have cash and good credit to buy a truck with conventional financing, you might be able to run under $1.50 a mile.
99% of Americans are in debt with poor credit.
Pretty much the game plan of the central banks.
Guys without 10-15k down are going to have weekly payments and high company fees.

Would you mind elaborating? What are you hauling? Who are you signed on with? What's do you net in a year? What kind of home time are you seeing?

As soon as a guy buys a truck,he never wants to run big miles anymore.
He goes home a lot and just wants to equal his previous pay with less work.
