Hope someone can answer this 1.

When leasing equipment from a parent company does the subordinate company have to file for its own registration, permits, and insurance?

I ask this based on a recent change at my company that had the parent companies DOT numbers removed and replaced with new DOT numbers yet the registration and permits remain in the parent companies name.

As far as I can tell the only difference (other than the new DOT numbers) is we now have to carry a photo copy of a "master lease agreement" in the trucks.

I would think if the company is running its own DOT numbers then it would also have to register those vehicles and purchase the oppropriate permits and line up its own insurance.
