I had a license suspension 10 yrs ago due to non payment of a seatbelt ticket. I also have a 3 yr unemployment gap. I had no problems retaining employment being truthful. Companies that won't hire you due to employment gaps aren't worth wasting your time with anyway.
Do what I did. Get your CDL through a private school, preferably a community college with a 6 month training program. Then avoid all carriers that have a in-house school (CR England, PAM, Swift and the likes). This will require more research and knowing exactly who you want to drive for from day one, but in the long run it'll be worth it.
You can go an entire career without ever having to step foot into a trk owned by a mega. -

Lieing wont get you very far, and It will get you in hot water with the DOT and FMCSA. I have a license suspension from 7 years ago. I was 16 and decided to not tell my dad about my speeding ticket, learned that lesson pretty quick. It didn't affect me too bad, did have to explain it to the company when I got hired on along with a couple minor traffic infractions I picked up before I started driving trucks. Just be honest.

Note to those responding to my removed post. I didn't get a chance to read your response before it was removed. But just so you know I was kidding around. I know the op only made an honest mistake I was just trying to give some people a good laugh. I apologize if it hurt anyone's feelings.

Just to be on the SAFE side, tell the whole complete entire truth. There is no telling if investigators are being hired to do seriously thorough background checks. Your information, along with their information, should coincide with one another.
Also, just to be on the SAFE side, you may want to get a job to have an employment record of anywhere from 3 years to 10 years, maybe somewhere in the mid-range of 5 to 7 years, before going into trucking.
In the past, I have spoken with retired people in management of trucking companies. Employment records, along with gaps in one's employment record, are becoming serious sticklers for many trucking companies. A lot of this is a combination of both D.O.T. and insurance requirements, or so I have been told.
Good luck to you! May God be with you! -
I was self employed for a period and when I applied they asked for a schedule c tax form. If you have that info it will be an easy reference for the employer. Best of luck to you.

I think you will have problems getting most companies to hire you, due to your situation.
Its not that is really unusual in the real world, but this is trucking, and the companies hire by formula.
If you don't drop easily into the pre-defined slots, (which don't have to make sense) they won't hire you and rarely make much of an effort to 'make it happen'.
I'd pursue trying to get on with the crappy companies who will train you, rather than paying for cdl school out of your own pocket, only to run into the same problem with a worthless cdl in your wallet. -
I'm still trying to figure out what the problem is.
Outside of your "suspended" license, the work history thing is easy to prove - you had to pay taxes in the countries you lived in or have proof that you were out of the country. You don't have to prove that you were "working" but a proof that you can provide that backs your claim IF they want to know. The entire work history thing has two sides to it, one is the terrorism thing (boo hiss) and the other is to make sure that you didn't get canned at your last job driving a truck by doing some really bad things.
The suspension thing is easy, take your proof of out of country residency to your DMV and show them you were not in the country. -
Hi guys, thanks for all the suggestions and help. I've been picking my brain and I think have resolved my work gap. I was performing a "job" all along without realizing it, only because I never looked at helping my 83 yr old mom as a "job". I wrote a letter how I help my mom with all daily activities including taking her to Physical therapy and will have my Brother ans Sister sign it and if need be, I'll have her doctor write something to confirm it..now all I need is to convince them that my suspension for a non payment was so bad..
As a token of appreciation, you all should buy stock in Flyht Aerospace(OTC symbol AMSLF) it's a canadian campany(TSE symbol FLY.V) they make the only real time streaming black box which had it been on the Malaysian plane, all this would have been avoided..follow this link http://investorshub.advfn.com/FLYHT-Aerospace-Solutions-Ltd-AMSLF-26230/ to a forum I set back in February 2013 so people can do research on the company, I found out about this company back in early 2013 doing research because I thought it was outrageous that planes still din't have real time data streaming..since this is OT, Hope I'm not breaking any rules by post this, If I am, sorry in advance..
