i drive local but on occasion i get to a site maybe 30 miles from here that may or may not have black ice. i was just wondering since i drive a single screw international and it might get icy on the road should i carry chains? i should mention since we are a small company pulling our own frieght to our own sites if it is snowing trucks are grounded. I heard if it is a snow zone i must carry chains even if there is no snow on the ground is this true? I Work in Oregon if that info is needed. Thanks

Yeah, Or. Ca. Co. all have mandatory chain laws ( you need them even if not snowing, Oct-Apr.) However Ca. on some roads won't allow single screw in snow even with chains. (395 no. of Bishop) as an example.

Beat me to it! October through April

I recommend taking them off the truck during the off season. The weigh a lot and take up space.

Why cause problems when you have no need to? Outfit the truck so if any problems come up you can move ahead. What would your boss say if he had to pay a tow bill because your chains were hanging in the garage? Well I do know a few words he may say like "You're fired".

At least Colorado is a little more forward thinking than a lot of other western states in that they allow commercial vehicles to use Autosocks instead of chains everywhere in the state. Nice, compact, light. Only takes a fraction of the time to install compared to chains and actually do a better job.

My chains hang off the side of my truck 24/7/365, if they aren't hanging there, it's because they are on the tires, or someone stole them. I carry 3 sets of singles and a spare, 8 to 10 bungees, and two t-handles, they never leave the truck. I inspect them twice during the winter (besides when I install them) and the last week in August I take them off, inspect them (I have smart ### co-workers who have been known to swap their trash for my good ones), re-hang them and prepare for winter.
