You pay half your income in taxes at every job.
Most people can’t do basic math.
If they could , congressmen would
Be riding around in armored cars and wouldn’t dare show up in public at a town hall meeting .

If you earn between $45-80k you’re federal income tax rate is 22%

then there’s the 13% social security tax. Which in a brilliant move, Congress makes your employer “contribute “ 6.3% of before you ever see it, so you never know you are paying that 6%

then there’s the 3% Medicare tax and in my state there is a 2% unemployment insurance tax, and a 6% state income tax.

    22+13+ 3 is 38%
Plus whatever your state grabs, and if they don’t have a state income tax they get it on property tax.
My state grabs 6% income tax , plus another 7% sales tax when you spend it .
    38+6+7 is 51%
And that doesn’t include all the hidden taxes on your utility bills and excise taxes on tires and stuff like that.

the government is easily stealing more than half of the income of people like me at the point of a gun,
( try not paying your taxes, government employees with guns will come and lock you in a cage)
who are stupid enough to still work for a living just to see that hard earned money paid out to people who stay home and relax and cash those welfare checks.

I get that. I pay taxes same as every other working stiff. My point is that the OP said he was doing "non taxed work", which to me means he was earning tax-free income. In reality he was paying taxes same as all of the rest of us. I think there are people who are 1099 who think they are working "non taxed".

I assumed he was getting a 1099 but he could be getting paid cash under the table

my father did that after he retired , he got bored and got a part time job but the feds started reducing his monthly social security check dollar for dollar, so he started working for cash.
As a construction speeder upper .

he started out doing the legwork and the waiting at the county getting the building permits for a contractor he knew, so the general contractor could spend time at his jobsites instead of wasting all day getting permits.

then one day after he brought some paperwork to the GC at a job site one day he got a phone call and was on the phone for several hours dealing with a family issue .

and the GC noticed that the subcontractors got a lot more done when he was sitting in the car on site since the subcontractors knew he handled the permits and inspections.

so the GC started paying him to just show up and sit in his truck and drink coffee and read the newspaper and make phone calls , at job sites where the subcontractors were falling behind schedule .

    snowlauncher Thanks this.
