Start school Monday. It's a 4 week course then you test. How far out should you begin submitting applications?
thanks!

I actually started fillin out applications my first week of school, a 4-week school as well. Another school I'd considered attending told me they have students fill out several apps the first day of school.

I started school middle of June this year. I was supposed to start in May but has some issues that kept me from going then. I started applying once I got my start from the school, towards the end of May. I had pre-hires from 11 companies before I started school and by week 2 I knew where I was going to work, so I didn't have to worry about that added stress.

It might be a good idea to wait and see if you actually like driving a truck before you unload a bunch of apps. You'll have plenty of opportunities to send apps in while you're in school and after you graduate.

Apply with flatbed companies. You will make more money than with mega-refrigerated companies.

I second some other people, here. Start researching and applying right away. Then you'll have some options lined up before you finish school. It's good to have three or four top choices in my opinion. Then you can narrow down based on money, milage, equipment, what you're willing to put up with and what you'll have to do without.

If you send it too early it might go to the bottom of the stack. I'd tend to wait until the last week. However, I'm a procrastinator.

Do a lot of research before you apply. Ask a lot of questions. These recruiters a lot of the time have never driven a truck. They'll give you answers to your questions then when you show up to orientation... you find out he had no clue.
My USX recruiter had no clue what kind of trucks the company drove, what time orientation started, how many hours I had to do for training, etc. Imagine having a job where you don't have to know anything. I want a job like that !
This is a great place to research. Just about everything has been asked before. Use the search button. If you don't find your answer.... ask us. We're here to help.
If you have a good driving and work history then all the companies who hire rookies will hire you. Don't waste your time applying to everyone.Criminey Jade Thanks this.
