I am curious as to when freight will pick up? I am looking at going to school in next Jan of 2010 or this coming summer. I know this economy has hit us hard but with people saying in the next few months is hardly believable. What do you all think?

I guess I am one of the lucky ones. this weeks check was for over 3400 miles last week was 3000 miles Next week will be small (1500 plus) because of Christmas, but the next one I already have 3000 plus miles scheduled.

With the economy the way it is, I think that most of the "old" patterns are up in the air. I'm not sure that there is any type of right answer to your question. [IMG]

I don't think freight will pick up until the government has completely destroyed all of the labor unions,..thus pushing drivers wages completely into the crapper,..And then filled all of the seats with Mexican drivers....It might take em' a couple of more years,..but we will all be living in mud huts before long..

When the economy picks up the freight will pick up. If you can predict when that will happen you can become a very rich man fast. They best and brights all have differing views on how long it will take.

I have to echo that one too. Everyone I listen to is in a debating process as to when they think it will pick up.

While some say we will stay in this slump for the entire 2009 year. I personally don't think it will last past May.

But then again...oil fell almost $10 a barrel last week. And gas prices went up 10-15 cents per gallon...so who am I to think I know anything about anything.

Just announced today that unemployment is at a 26 year high,....If unemployment keeps rising, freight will keep dropping...

That puts us back to 1982 standards.

While it was bad, it was endured. We'll do the same now. But more people will starve, and live on the street.

It's just so difficult for a trophy wife or a Wall street goofball to take a job at McDonalds...they would rather starve...first.

He77,..I'm not a wall street goof ball, And Mickey D's isn't hiring here,...Very few jobs to be found,...I have one more application out that I am waiting on,..If I don't get it I'm moving somewhere to find work. I never dreamed I would end up in this position,...It's a bad feeling.....

We also need to factor in CARB for CA freight.
By Sept of 2009 large fleets will need to have 2004 or newer rigs to be compliant.
This affects brokers and companies that use O/O's as well since they technically are part of the fleet when a shipping agreement is signed.
CARB compliance will remove at least 20-30% of the rigs (my estimation since CARB hasn't any real numbers regarding freight) OTR and 70% or more of vocational trucks (dump trucks, water trucks, boom trucks...) off the road.

I have already seen one dump truck broker post an upcoming contract requiring O/O's to have a 2004 or newer rig. I'm sure this will spread over to freight.
How many of you own or drive a pre 2004?
The good news is if you hate Cali, after Sept you'll have another reason not to go.
