To the OP. Your truck broke down. Roadside service fixed it. Your company tried to jip him. I'm siding with the mechanic. He upheld his end of the deal. He fixed your truck. We was leaving paid. If your company was actually concerned for you, they would have disputed those charges later and let you go on your way.

We would have simply called another company. But they said they could fix it, I even sent a video of the problem.

I don't have to pay him it's not my truck. So yes, my job is to get adequate sleep so I could drive 4 hours later. I'm not the one who said they could be there in 2 hours and didn't arrive for 5. That's not my fault. So I needed sleep. My job is to make sure I'm safe to drive in the morning. I can't do that if I'm fighting a mechanic who want's payment from me that moment for a truck I don't own.

I had my truck towed in Wisconsin about 5 years ago and had a nice talk with the tow driver who told me of a eastern euro whose truck he fixed at roadside .
Mr. Euro didn't like the price and refused to pay so tow driver called Wisconsin state patrol who informed Mr. Euro he would pay or go to jail for theft of services and have his truck impounded .
Mr . Euro payed the bill .

Stories like these make me appreciate having a company job. Don't have to chase down customers to collect my money.

Nobody tried to jip anyone. Did you even read what I wrote in the OP? We TRIED to pay him, twice, and both options declined. I also stated that I offered to stay with the truck and not even try to move it until they got paid in the morning. They refused. That's not my fault.

Did I forget to mention when I used my personal credit card, it declined the first time as well? I had to run it twice to make it work. Then we later found out that the EFS system was down that night for maintenance, that's why EFS didn't work.

We don't jip anyone. We pay our bills, on time, every time. We are rated A+ by BBB for a reason.

    What are you talking about?

    1. It wasn't my truck, it was a company truck.

    2. My company didn't try to jip him, as was detailed in the previous reply.

    3. My company can't dispute charges that are on my credit card.

    BennysPennys Thanks this.

The extortion is threatening to disable my truck leaving me and my dog to die in the middle of the desert and increasing the bill every single hour when they even admitted we were trying to pay and everything was coming back declined.

That is extortion. Why didn't this guy give us a quote in writing? Because he's a dishonest ####### who knows with a quote in writing they can't screw people who have issues.

How do we know he didn't intentionally decline our credit card so he could rip us off for more money? After all, he wasn't using a known payment thing, we had to go to some website to pay him. The whole thing looked shady.

And when businesses doing business with other businesses, payments come through PO numbers. It's how we pay. We refuse to deal with people who demand payment that moment. If you do work for Wal Mart I promise you they aren't going to pay you that moment. You will get a PO number and be paid off of an invoice you submit. That's how businesses work.

mechanic has to diagnose first before they can quote you. That means coming out and taking a look at it. This means travel and time. So he has to charge for that for sure.

Now didn’t he give you a quote once he got out there?

Somebody may have asked this already but why didn't you just call for a tow to the nearest exit with a truck shop and get a hotel room? Letting some guy come out and try to fix a faulty fuel system in the middle of the night and then hold you hostage while your company plays games with him and doesn't have authorization that time of day to pay for it...cmon that's just asking for it.

If it was a newer common rail fuel injection system, yes, those high pressure pumps can be pretty expensive to replace. Part of the reason I don;t really like that newer stuff but that's a different topic.
