    Larger cryogenic companies?

    • Linde/Praxair (they've merged--now they're basically like Jack and Jill)
    • AirGas (their parent company is Air Liquide--a French company)
    • Matheson Tri-Gas (the smallest of the majors--don't apply there unless you like using a manual transmission)
    • Messer (privately owned--thus, not traded on any of the equity markets; funny name--ready to "make a mess"? :p)

Sign-on bonuses with Linde/Praxair have been pretty impressive, in some locations. Some of those involved team driving positions.

Cryo suppliers/producers are well known for their very strict (read, "anal") driving safety policies--and also their driver-facing nannycams. :(

As noted above--bonuses are NOT paid out lump-sum, and up front--the payout will instead be done with installments, over a period of time.

Yeah I know all about bonus installments, been otr since 2006. But there are sometimes big ones up front. ABF doing $10k on first check right now out of Carlisle pa. Walmart $8k, $4k of which you get onboarding.

Most sign-on bonuses are paid over 6 months to a year. I don't know of any sign-on paid in a lump sum.

FYI in case you didn’t know companies ABF that offer up front bonus if you quit or terminated before your year is up you are required to pay back the bonus. You will sign that form before you get the check.

Indeed. Ours are in 5 equal installments (second check, then each check after 90, 180, 270, 360 days). It keeps the bonus-hoppers from coming in, snatching a bunch of cash, then jumping ship the moment it hits the bank.

We also limit the amount in bonuses in order to free up more for payroll. Why pay the new guy a bunch of extra money yet not appreciate the long-term employee. Less bonuses = greater annual raises.
Yup. I can't think of any place willing to extend a large amount of cash without a clause for recoupment in case the driver departs prematurely.

No companies gonna hand you a huge bonus right up front. I mean they might offer 1500 before the ink dries, but you’re not getting more than that. At best The way they typically do it as each month they add it to your last check if you met all their standards. Usually including safe driving etc. US Xpress was offering a $12,000 bonus a while ago. You would get $1000 at the end of every month that you didn’t get in an accident. Or have a major incident. Nobody’s gonna give you a check for $12,000 the first day. Lol

What I’m getting at is no company is gonna hand you money and then you turn around and say hey guys guess what I quit and then you get to keep that money. Even if they give you a sum upfront on day one? I guarantee you you’re signing something that you’re on the hook if you don’t meet whatever requirements they put forth.
