If anybody paid their sign on bonus up front, I’d bet they wouldn’t keep people long. Everyone would just jump jobs collecting that bonus.
Where’s the big up front sign on bonuses at?

Those bonuses are paid out slowly.

There are conditions for any bonus, none of which any are paid up front. And if they were, and the driver quit a month later, the driver would have to pay it back and not with monthly payments. I'm sure you've noticed recruitment ads with phrases like "up to" or "as much as" an example being fuel bonus monthly, but they neglet to say you must drive 10K/mo ! to get the bonus. ( 1 co I worked for years ago I always had monthly mi run at about 9950-9975 ! ) So truck co says our drivers get "up to" 10K mi/month.
I must say I've never seen drivers research potential employers by how much $$$ they might get as a sign on bonus. I've seen drivers ask who has the nicest equipment ? Or, who has 100% no touch freight? Or who doesn't go to NYC ? My how things have changed since almost 50 years ago when I climbed on board my '68 Pete and started hauling furniture.superpet39, bryan21384 and MartinFromBC Thank this. -

Be careful......with what's behind/after those nice-looking bonuses.
ABF--Based on what I'm seeing elsewhere, LTL freight action is slowing down, and you may well need the advertised bonus just to cover how low the resulting salary is. Good runs (and thus, good pay) within the LTL crowd is....for the most part....seniority-based.
WallyWorld--It's a regional job, and trucks are not assigned.....until you've been there quite a while (if ever). SLIP SEATING SUX!!!! Especially if you're running regional/otr. You may not take well to their corporate structure/driver micro-management mentality, either.
It's probably better to just chase the better paying stuff, anyway....and consider the bonus to be just that....a bonus (if you get it).

$10,000 day one.
That's crazy.
It's tempting just to show up for $10,000 and then quit next day lol.MartinFromBC Thanks this. -
Dollar General in Bessemer, AL is offering $5k sign on bonus. Saw a big sign on the guard shack the other day.
MartinFromBC Thanks this. -
You guys really think they're not going to have you sign a stipulation that says that if you quit before a certain amount of time you have to give the bonus back?
I knew truckers were gullible but ####...MartinFromBC Thanks this. -
I'm sure the contract stipulates if you quit or get fired within X amount of months, you have to pay it back.
