I run mostly coast to coast refer now. And the money is dang good! Much more intense then dry van was for me, but I’ll be making almost double this coming year over last year and the benefits where I work are outstanding. Everyone else is slow right now, not me. I’m running hard for three weeks straight now.
Where’s the most money in 2022?

The walmart account I was on as a company driver (Mega) you didnt touch the freight but you did have to count the pallets/racks being removed and were responsible if they missed a pallet you had to go back. 2-4 stores a day. Raising lowering bulkheads and even standing, in all weather, at the back door (often being ignored) until they decided they were ready to let you in means you are really on duty your whole shift.
Company rats everywhere and run to the boss if you do anything against the rules, like adjusting tandems in the improper area where you werent bothering anybody from doing their job. You’ll get a warning. Pull through spots to park in an mostly empty lot, stern warning. And I wasn’t even an official WM driver so I really didnt care but it shows the culture and its sick how many drivers will run and rat each other out over basically nothing. One could argue I was ratted on for making the safer choice but whatever.
I even had a female WM driver literally threaten to punch me in the face, right in front of the supervisor. All because I didnt back into a spot in that nearly empty lot. I pulled through which is a safer move. I could easily take her but the supervisor was probably even scared of her she was such a brown nosed rat. He didnt say boo to her for threatening me and I got a ‘warning’. I dont know how anyone could put up with that kind of nonsense, but some seem to thrive on it.
Yeah, the pay is good and they eased their hiring requirements but it is not at all what I would consider a good job. The better (daytime, non refrigerated) routes all go to the senior drivers and they eat they young.
If you live nearby to a busy DC I’m sure you could do worse. -

I did Walmart for a few months with First Fleet and there is like you described. Only real benefit is First Fleet trucks got head of the line privileges for a dock door. Don't know if it's the same there now.4wayflashers Thanks this. -
The actual walmart drivers are ruthless with those rules and actually get pissed if they see you not booting vendors out of the dock. Did a drop and hook at final stop once and just after I got hooked a walmart driver pulled up screaming that was his trailer. Not today tough guy was my reply lol. He was fighting mad as I pulled off.
I did inquire about becoming an actual walmart driver being I was already doing the account I figured they would consider that a good thing but they said they dont hire from companies they subcontract to. Conflict of interest they said.mathematrucker, bentstrider83 and Chinatown Thank this. -

Best thing anyone can do is go learn a trade. Trucking is only going to get worse. The money is in fixing trucks. Next anything HVAC or plumbing. Plus you will have skills for after trucking.

It's funny how a one post wonder can generate so many responses over so long a time, leading to nothing.
The OP should be running Microsoft, or be running for president.Chinatown Thanks this. -
