Believe me--you do not want Priority. I just left them after 12 years.

Generally speaking, the good trucking companies are the ones who don't use recruiters... they don't need to. The competition to get jobs at the genuinely good companies is just as fierce as in any other good job market. These companies usually require at least 2-3 years OTR experience though... some require as much as 5 years. One of the better big companies to start out with is Crete. I worked for them for 2 years and they were a big improvement over my first company. They aren't perfect, but they are among the best large companies that I know of.

Just stick it out and freight will pick up. Try picking up a dedicated account.

freight is bad so all companies are a bit slow but like you said the companies who serve the housing markets are perticularilly bad right now.

Prime you will definatly run. usually them guys complain about too much running.

Try a reefer company. you will have sitting on both ends but you will run like a raped ape in between. being in new york you have the possibility of coast to coast with reefer. not to much of that freight left anymore outside of reefer

I don't know about three of the companies but I did work for priority. It started out well 3400 miles first week. after that I struggled to get 500 to 800 miles a week. I am not saying it is a bad company it was bad for me. It like most companies might not be good for you but great for others

5 Jobs in 16 months? Man, if you are chasing miles like that, you're gonna go from job to job. You have your slow weeks and your fast weeks, you gotta give it a chance to let the miles pick up..you aren't the only driver that needs miles...just a point.
