Where Could I get a PO Box with a street address in Tennessee or some place close to NC? The reason I ask is because it seems for some reason that even though companies hire in this state they won't take me for Company Sponsored Training because of some bull S!@# law or some thing. Also I'm short on funds as is, all thanks to Dental work I need done ASAP. 3-4 fillings, a root canal, and a cap to go over the canal. I had to get one canal done last year but could never afford a cap to top it off and the temporary Cement they put in it lasted a long time, so hopefully I'm lucky and don't need them to redo the one they already did and Insurance is only going to cover half not including the antibiotics etc.
So if anyone has anwsers or can give me a place to call and have a PO Box Set up that can also forward mail to my folks in NC then that would be awesome as I don't really know anything about doing that or where to look. Just some thing I've heard about really. Long story short, its only temporary to get Company Sponsored Training and what not so then I can just transfer it to the state I reside in.
Where Can I get a PO Box with a street address?

At a UPS Store you can get a box and you can use their physical address. Example: Joe Blow, 12345 Main Street, Box 666, Anywhere, NC 12345. I believe the website has the prices.
You can also google 'mail services' or 'mail forwarders' in your city. -
I think company sponsored training is the worst way to start a career, but that is just my opinion and the opinion of a lot driver on this web site.
With that said I did find it interesting that Con-Way allows you to work their docks to earn some money while attending their school. Also Con-way seems to receive excellent reviews by drivers on this web site and I sometimes work with my local Con-Way office and they seem like nice people.
There are no DOT standards or requirements for the training of CDL drivers only testing. You can walk into the DMV in your hometown and pick up the study manual, study the manual, pay the fees, and take the test. You will however need a truck to do the road test in and that's it.
Most companies that hire student drivers have a standard which is normally 150 hours from an accredited school. Every company is different so call around to a few companies you are interested in and see how many hours they require.
Company sponsored training vs. non-company sponsored training
Their are far to many reasons to explain here why company sponsored/paid training is a very bad idea, if you really want to know there are a lot threads on this web site alone explaining the down falls and horror stories driver have been thru fulfilling those contracts.
So I will explain some of the benefits of attending a non-company sponsored schooling path.
1. Most accredited schools have FASFA and other financing options. Some state labor agencies even have free money.
2. Most schools offer lifetime job placement and normally know who is hiring locally before it is even advertised.
3. Most schools will have you pre-hired before you even finish schooling
4. If you attend a non-company sponsored training you receive all of the tax credits and deductions and NOT the company. Like tuition, books, maps, clothes, pens & pencils, notebooks, cost of a laptop/computer, cost of a printer, ink, paper, cost of the medical exam, permitting fees, meals, travel expenses, etc..
5. Normally you will start with a higher CPM rate than drivers coming out of their own school.
6. Most companies have tuition reimbursement up to $10,000 which is paid directly to you weekly or monthly with no contract.
7. You can leave the company anytime you want cause you owe them ZERO!
8. When you are in school you may find you like hauling something different than what you thought or you may receive better job offers. You are not locked into one company for the next 12-15 months so you can do whatever you want.airforcetoo Thanks this. -
Did you apply with Prime Inc. or Central Refrigerated? No money up front with those two companies.
Otherwise, travel to TN and get a UPS Store mailing address with a street address, as c64Basic posted.
Do you have any relatives or friends living in another state, you can use their address. -
Why don't you just use your parent's address?
-
I had a few questions. Once you have this mailing address how does it help you with the job?
I mean if you have an address in Tallahassee, FL and you live say more than 50 miles away how do you receive home time?
If you change your address back to your home after you finish training and you are outside that carriers hiring area they could release from the job. Now, you are out of work, with no experience, and a black eye on your DAC about how you left the carrier without paying for the schooling they paid for. If you think the carrier wouldn't do that you need to read a lot more threads about drivers who ran into issues with carrier sponsored training on this web site. I personally have seen it on DACs of drivers with years of experience who have applied to both my company and my brother's company. -
Forgot to mention, I'm on a full dental plan on my mothers insurance from the hospital she works at but after insurance coverage that is 300$ for a root canal, and then a 700$ out of pocket cost for a crown and needing 3 or 4 small fillings after insurance will be about 40-50$ per. As far as being able to have anyone co-sign a loan for a school in this state that is impossible thanks to our S!@# Government and Banks. If you been reading along how the Govt Sued Saxon Mortgage well, my folks had to file bankruptcy in 05 because of their Fraud and the checks the government is sending out is 300$ when we should be getting 15k or more. 96 thousand people got the wrong amount for the checks etc. Its a mess and her credit is shot and the rest of my family sucks donkey ballz and I want nothing to really do with them anyway.
I have nothing to loose but some boxes of old clothes and small nick nacks of my own, so being gone 3weeks or maybe months out will do me some good. After a year 1/2 exp I'm going to jump onto UPS and be home every night and weekend so I can support my self through college, buy a house, buy a z06 corvette with a Twin Turbo Package, and be able to drink lots of alcohol on Friday and Saturday nights and sober up for work by Monday. Maybe find a girl some where in there when I get the chance, but I'm more focused on doing me and I have nothing preventing me from doing it so now is the perfect time in my life to accomplish such things. Hell, I may not even go to college if I like what I'm doing and even if I don't like what I'm doing this will always be a plan B Scenario to do Repossessions for my step fathers sisters Tow Company or what ever have ya.
I do appreciate all the information you typed out for me, that does mean a lot and I did read it all, so Thank you never the less.
Looks like im going to remain single for another 2 years before I even make an attempt to find a keeper. I may just stick it bros before hoe code and hit it quit it.

It might already be on his DAC.... Hey OP, what happened in school? Did ure carrier drop u right after u got ure CDL???
-
That was true at one time and when a CDL is not involved may still be true in TN. However if you are driving interstate with that CDL, which it sounds like you want to do, the laws have changed.
49 CFR sub-section 384.205 CDLIS information state compliance standard, May 2011 -
As far as the company getting paid......... They would get paid simply because I would continue to pay them because I wouldn't sit on arse with out a job. A black eye on my DAC? HAHA! So what? If you're looking for another job and you know that something like that is on there then simply mail them the receipts to the company of which you are applying and show them that they got their lousy few grand and tell them what happen..... Tell them you moved a couple months after working for them and they let you go.......... Technically speaking, if that wasn't on the contract you signed then they broke their own contract and they don't deserve to get a penny to begin with.
All in all, I'm in their hiring area if I already had a CDL to start and they have lanes running through my area and they said if I moved it wouldn't be a problem. The terminal is like 336miles from my house all interstate and they have a couple drop yards and lots of freight moving through here so shouldn't be an issue.
