I'm curious where a guy could go with a 97 model truck? Alot of companies are 10 year old max and I've found a few back as far as 98. But I'm looking at a couple of different 379's both well maintained and overhauled at fair prices but where can I go?

I've heard horror stories about guys trying to be independent. I've been told by quite a few guys to lease on to a company. I like the idea of not having to hunt my own loads down but can you make more doing it?

I don't recomened going independent if all your going to use is brokers, i've bin independent since 94 and i love it just hook up with some good shippers in the areas you want to run and use the brokers as fill in's, rummor to what some will tell you there are alot of direct shippers that are more than happy to use o/o's,my average for all miles weekly is between $1.65 and 1.95 a mile pulling flatbed. But you will have more out of pocket money running independent, way your options it's not a good route for everybody but if you have the drive you can do realy good on your own.

Mercer does have a age requirement now.... But I think the oldest they allow is a 97.

Whats wrong with California? I get good freight going in & out all the time.

admiral merchants, landstar, jones motor, and mercer all take older trucks as long as they are in good shape. All of them are agent based load boards.I have been leased to every one but mercer and used to trip lease with their stocton office years ago. They are all good companies and you cn make money with any of them.good luck
