Older trucks are so much more reliable. As stated above most smaller companies will as long as it passes DOT. I pull hoppers locally and almost never see a newer truck. I'd say 2005 and older mostly

Don't let people make you think an older truck is unable to work anymore. May not pull the trailer you want but work is out there. I started to put my 1980 Transtar 2 back out but went a different direction, I know Tryon Trucking has a 1974 W900 pulling for them. Don't know much about them but as long as it passes a certified DOT inspection you are set to ride and guide.

There is a friend of mine at church that has an 80 model transtar 2 that I've been eyeballing. It had a bad injector and got a piston. He said 2k would get it. It's in pretty good shape. 400BC with a 13 behind it. My baby in my avatar got 6.5 average with a 400BC , 10 spd , with 370s. All I do now is pull hoppers during pickin time. New motor, tranny, front end and rebuilt differentials and it ran like a stallion lmao

There's a really sharp Transtar hauling propane in central PA...I keep seeing it near Souderton/Lansdale area. Osterman or some such is the name on the side of the trailer. Think outside the box!

I seen an old Wal-Mart cabover leased to Schneider National. When I was Wal-Mart dedicated for Schneider National. Someone said they were the flex drivers that hop around the dedicated accounts

Better check that year model again driver. 1981 was the last year for the Transtar, 1982 the 9670 cabinover came out.

Those Transtars were some tough trucks, I started out driving a 1980 model.13 spd, Shiny 290 cummins, it had a Sawmill spring in the pump and a #5 fuel button, it would turn 2400 rpm and haul ###.

I love to see that old iron rollin. To me it speaks volumes to the quality of yesterdays trucks. While you are stuck in the shop over electrical, sensor issues etc... I'll be rolling on by with my grain wagon in toe singing lookin ever so fine in my 359 lmao.

A truck is made of parts, all of which are replaceable. There are almost no parts trucks that can't be replaced with new or rebuilt near to new. The exception being some of the parts on old 359s, W9s, Louisvilles and the like. I'll take a cared for old truck over new any day of any week anyplace. I could never understand the beef some companies have over old trucks. Now with elds and that bs. I see their desire for newer equipment. A smart o/o isn't going to have an old pos that can't make him money.

A lot of companies have age restrictions cause most of the idiots out here don't know how to maintain an older trick, or how to fix the little things that pop up.
