So I'm actively looking into switching career directions, and getting away from doorslamming. I've found a company that seems to be a decently fair deal for owner ops, and they only do owner op work.
Anyway. I have absolutely zero open deck equipment, and they offer financing on securement and a headache rack. Still waiting on an email back about which rack they offer, and I'll likely buy my own anyway.
They emailed me a list of all the securement gear I'd need to start, and it's $3500 for all brand new stuff, and if it's available used, it's a sizable savings. I'm assuming things like dunnage, chains, binders, coil racks, all the "hard parts" will be fairly durable. I planned on brand new bungees, straps, ratchets, and maybe tarps.
    Input?

Facebook market place has had a few people getting out of the business put their stuff up for sale.
Small used truck dealers buy a few trucks fully loaded with what you need. Usually sell it off along with headache racks.
I find a lot of chains and binders on the side of the road.

I've checked marketplace, the stuff I've seen is several hours away and somewhat questionable on condition. Straps that are almost black, etc.
I'll check out the dealership angle for a rack, I know there's one not too far away that had a pile leaned against the wall when I had a PM done there a while back.

Trailer dealers are probably your best bet for most items you’ll need. Truck dealerships for some items as well. Probably find used equipment will be in better condition from these paces, if they sell used equipment.

Just a side note, if the price they have quoted you is for all equipment you should need, that’s actually not a bad price. It would depend on what is included at that pricing.

Why do you need a rack ? I see plenty of owner ops that just throw chains, binders, straps, etc. in the passenger floorboard & seat.

Used prices they quote are assuming they even have any.

I like to keep my truck tidy and clean, and not smelling of wet straps.

Check out a trailer dealer. Make sure it’s one that does a lot of flatbeds. Have found Utility dealers seem to have the best prices.
