I have a Volvo VN780 and am looking for a conversion kit so my mechanic can install it for me. I've already been told to look at eBay but they mostly are car or vehicle specific and I cannot find one for a commercial vehicle, (does that even matter?).

Any help would be greatfuly appreciated.

    Thanks

as I;ve understood you wanna put HID in low beam projector. It is easy to find any HID kit. In EU they use H7 bulbs, in the USA as I remember they use H11...

But the problem is hidden in LCM programming. Some LCM units may drop low beam electrical fault codes and it is not all. Starting ballast current is high and may damage MOSFETs (BTS) inside LCM and that's why adding relays and LCM reprogramming may be requred.

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ers/123361-help-hid-lights-2004-up-volvo.html

Read this thread with included wiring diagrams. And wiring diagrams may differ depending on year of make and market. Volvo do not offer HID on US market and I put '06 Volvo FH diagrams. Volvo use different wire color coding on COE cabines, but principallly you can see what do they do to install HID.

It is not all. Some LCM's are not reprogrammable for HID, but electrical fault current values are reprogrammable and I reprogram them for zero current and no stored fault codes.

Anyway, to do it you need Volvo VCADs ore PTT software. Not all dealer mechanics know how and what to reprogram... they usually can read and clear fault codes and twist broken wires)) LOL

Ok, here it goes. To all who say that hid is bad and you can not see at night. To all who say that you'll get the CEL/similar with the hid. Plus, others. = you're wrong. 98% . I sell hid kits. I install hid kits. I also
Advice not to buy anything under $150 and above $300. Under $150 the quality is not there, over $300 is overpriced. Talking from personal experience here ; have two of my own cars, in which hid is installed as the low beam. One of my car's uses the same bulb for the
High and low beams bi's. - this car has the wiring harness and the kits are more expensive for this type of the set up. My Honda motorcycle has hid kit. My brothers acura has original crappy hid kit, which is going out soon. My fog lights have the hid kit. Now, my rig has the hid kit. Installed them all my self. Sell them too. Now, the brightness of the hid bulb will Be dependent on the kalvin temp of the light , not to be mistaken with the C or F temperature. Hid can be installed into any headlight that has the removable bulb. I have the 2007 Volvo vnl780 with the hid kit and had no need to go to the dealer to pay them for the reprograming truck's computer. That's another reason why the price was quated at the higher number. Kit carries 3 year warranty. Hid's work fine in the Projected or halogen headlights.

I used to install HID in Volvos. But there is one hidden problrm, with halogen projector reflectors go to hot and after 5 ore more yars of use then need be resilvered, so I do it first, and with HID projector life is much longer.

I've been running a 35w DDM kit in my personal pick up for over a year. I've never had any problems.

When purchasing aftermarket kits you want to match the bulb type not the vehicle.

Also when you install a HID kit in a factory housing make sure that:

    1) The bulbs don't get so hot they melt the housing and
    2) That you re-adjust your lights so you aren't blinding everyone coming at you.

    * I do recommend this kit. It's by DDM tuning. They have 2 different types of ballasts. But there shipping can be slow from time to time.

My cars do 30-40k miles per year. The longevity of the ddm kits is not there. In my 1st year with ddm - replaced 3 sets - not pieces - sets of their hid's. Everytime the process was not pleasing, due to the neatness and quality of work done. Plus, have to unsecure and secure them again. My customers hated it to - so, after I've dropped ddm and went with the different supplier, me and my cliental is a lot happier.

Yes, my current supplier charges more , a lot more then $35 that ddm charged. But, I've had no problems with them. Therefore, I've even installed it on my Volvo vnl without getting any warning lights.

IMO: if you're happy with what you have, it's good. However, if you just want to buy the kit, install it and be done with it - go with something else then ddm - just not eBay. I'm not saying that the kits that I sell
Are the best. I'm saying that me nor anyone else who had this kit vs ddm had less to ne problems.

Come to think about it, there is only one kit by ddm that is still in one of my cars and that is the 3000k kit in the fog lights - which if was used 5-7 hours in the last 2 years, is good.

Also, check the lumens output on the 5k bulb. It is lower then the 4300k. By 2xx-3xx lumens. 3900 would be ideal -without going yellow-
But they are almost nit available.
