The latest ripoff - sleep apnea. Why fight, when you can't win?

I need a test. To anyone with the intelligence God granted to a grape, it would be obvious that a positive test would be more profitable for the medical section of the economy than a negative. And so I ask for anyone who has tested with an "at-home" place, and been found NOT to have sleep apnea.

    This should be interesting...

I agree. Our company does the "at home" and when I was at orientation EVERYONE they tested was positive and everyone I've talked to that has taken it has been positive.

I spoke with one guy who after testing positive informed them that he was recently tested at a hospital and was told he was negative. Then supplied proof from the hospital and he was told...Ohh your okay then.

Its a SCAM! We were all required to pay about $1,000 ($30.00. a week out of check) to get their machine.

I'm with you on this one. I believe them to be self-fulfilling prophesies so that if anyone walks through the door, they automatically have sleep apnea.

I was told I would need a sleep apnea test and was given a 3 month med card. At the end of the three months I went to the local sleep study doctor or whatever the hell you call them. I told them I have no sleep issues other then sometimes its hard for me to get to sleep. They didn't want to give me the test really but since my company said I had to have it they did. So I had the annoying test done and was called in a few days later to be told I don't have sleep apnea. I think the test is good for 5 years but don't quote me on that. All in all it was 3 visits to the same building and 2 co pays of 40 bucks each. No other costs occurred. Im 6'5 300 lbs but my neck isn't over 17 inches. bmi ofcourse wasn't good but company still made me get it. its a joke in my opinion.

There are several threads on this issue that I have also posted on.

This is a real issue.. I was tested and have sleep apnea.. test was $365.. my wife was tested and did not have it.

if you were diagnosed by your doctor with cancer would you think it was a rip off...

this is a real health issue and everyone needs to stop whining about it because they happen to fall into
    the risk catagory...

It is a real health issue, but these companies are using it to scam thousands of people.

    What companies?

Your employer does not make anything from having you tested... the fmcsa does not profit from it...

it is a health and safety issue when it comes to driving....

If more drivers actually took the time to address the issue of their own health, in other words back away from the buffet table at the Petro, this wouldn't be an issue & a future regulation.

Yes weight isn't the only factor but lifestyle, i.e., sitting behind the wheel of a truck 8-10 hours a day, predominantly a sedentary lifestyle, lack of exercise, poor diet, irregular sleep patterns, poor health history or hereditary risk factors also play a role... sound like you when you look in the mirror? Did grandpa die of heart disease too young? Get used to it drivers because sleep apnea is very real & it's a condition that is worsening in our society & oh yeah before I forget... the FMCSA is going to regulate it! You'll either get ahead of it now & maybe save your own life & potentially others too or you'll be looking for a new career.
