My wife was asking me some questions last night about my soon to be new career and the question I didn't know the answer to was when I'm home, where do I park my truck?
I'm sure there may be some variation depending on who I end up driving for but the most likely possibility at this point is a reefer company whose nearest terminal is over 500 miles from my house. There's definitely no room on the street where I live.
Will there be times when I'm only home for a couple days that I may be loaded? If so, how often will I need to go check on my truck?
TIA
Where do I park?

When I drove reefer if I was "babysitting" a load I would usually go 2x a day to check on the load. Fortunately I parked right across the street from the DPS office in my town at that time. Your best bet is to find a local business (I mean locally owned) that has enough room to accommodate a truck and trailer if needed. Another option in some locations are the "storage" facilities with extra room in them as they provide an extra level of security (albeit for a price).

First ask the company if there is a place u can drop trailer at a shipper or rec. If not try a place like lowes or home depot and speak with manager to park there on home time.

Yeah one of my guys parks his truck at Home Depot all the time. All you gotta do is just talk to the manager and he'll let you park there.
Good luck!!Last edited: Aug 21, 2012

We had a small yard in Dallas. I would park the trailer there. I would drive the tractor home to stock back up, and clean.

I don't live too far from a WalMart/Sam's Club. How are they for parking?

Truck Stop in your town? Some companies are a bit picky if you are loaded.

I don't know if a lot of companies will let you leave a loaded truck unattended esp with the theft rates up so you will need to check on that. We have stopped by the house once in awhile for a few hours, but not like a 34.
Most companies will try to get you a load somewhere in the area to deliver and then you deadhead home to park.
We have a small truckstop in town, and husband did drop trailer on a corner spot of a friend we knew then he would bobtail to the house. One time though some idiot turned it in a stolen trailer and I was on way back home and a wrecker service was hooking up to it; they said it had been reported as missing and were doing a reclaim, took awhile to convince them it was supposed to be on the truck he had and it had just made a delivery the day before to Sam's club.
Some Walmart's will let you park in their lot, ours here once again let truckers in the lot; the truck is not supposed to be idling because of them being busted by EPA though, and it would be a good idea to let the manager know. Husband spent close to $900. in a Walmart at Paducah, KY and they made sure they let him know he couldn't park there. -
