Mostly at the "CDL mills" i.e. JB Hunt, Stevens Transport, Schneider, PAM, Swift. Not neccessarily in that order. Maybe if you're lucky you can go to community college and get title IV funding instead of getting sucked into on of the schools. Good luck and drive safe!

community college is the way to go. much cheaper...mine was only 634.00 compared to most schools 3000-5000, you dont need a class A to drive a school bus or a garbage truck.

Now a days, a CDL school, or one of the large carriers is mostly the way it's done. Thank insurance companies, lawyers, the gubbermint for that.
It still is possible, once you get that CDL, to find a small company that will take you, I know of a guy in Maine that just gave a kid a chance, but guys like him are few and far between. The smaller guys around here need at least 2 years to hire a driver.
I learned to drive 3/4 of the way through the last century, helped a friend out time to time, then didn't drive for quite a few years.
I wound up having to go to a school, round about $4k it cost me. Then I got hired by CFI/Conway. I was lucky to get in there, not the best place I've been, but far from the worse.
That'a how I got back in by todays standards.
I'd suggest do what you can to get that CDL on your own, then you don't owe anyone for it, and it can open more choices than the super megacarriers that indenture you until your bill is paid. It's more or less a freedom thing.:biggrin_25525:

well, in the beginning, there is a man, then there is a woman, then they "make out"...

'bout 9 months later, a mini person pops out of the woman and gets slapped on his arse, the first of many times this mini person will be discouraged from being a trucker.

as the years go by, that mini person grows older, then along the way, tries to make up his mind as what to be when he "grows up"...

now some go onto other jobs and careers, but "always wanted to be a trucker".

so when that person gets even OLDER, that person decides to get out of his dead end job and go to truck driver school.

if that person IS NOT TOO OLD, he will graduate that school and get a job at a mega-super-duper-carrier that will string him along for several weeks and pay him next to nothing...

then when his training is done, he will be sent home to wait for a truck to be available, which never happens....

now, being all pissed off at all of this sheet, this person goes back home and tries to find the doctor that "delivered" him into the world...

then just before he shoots the doctor dead, he says to the doctor, '######, you should have kicked the sheet outta me instead of just a biotch slap"....

    then he shoots the doctor.....

many, many years later.....this person decides to get back into trucking

but now he is a convicted felon.....

he asks and asks, "can a convicted felon get a job driving a truck"...??

some say to him YES, some say to him NO........

after trying for several weeks then into the months of not finding work, this person goes and robs a 7-11.....and forgets his keys to his get-a-way car on the counter, goes back into the store to get his keys, but the cops that are now there...??

    shoot him dead....

and that is how "some truckers" get their start".....

or in this case, NO START at all....!!!

    da end....:biggrin_25522:

In my area, most new drivers start off in the oilfield hauling, diesel, oil, acid, sand, water, oil rigs, Fracing equipment etc....these jobs are booming right now as well. My first job was/is hauling diesel.
