Owning a repair shop for 17 years, I can tell you 95% are no good. The whole point of a PM is preventative. Even if your lucky enough to get every fitting greased (unlikely), oil, filters, and gear boxes checked and filled properly, you've got to be worried.
Did the tech notice the loose s cam bushings? The yoke nut loose? Fan clutch wobble? Crack in the wheel? Coolant hose rubbing? Ad nauseum...
Where do you change your oil?

I do them in my own shop.

PMs pay squat. Its all the items found on the PM where the shops make back money lost performing oil changes. You want a qualified guy to do your 3 hour PM and do it right?, gonna cost you. You would cringe at the bill and still complain that it costs too much and took too long. If you want it done right, do it yourself.

I do them at home in the shop.. I only use Cat filters .. most shops do carry those ..

If it takes a guy 3 hours, I’d say he’s not qualified or he’s paid hourly and moving super slow. I can do it in around an hour when I’m at the house.Shanebklyn and ProfessionalNoticer Thank this.

Last couple years I’ve been using Five Star all the time. It can be a little hectic on Fridays with all the local trucks coming in before the weekend. If I don’t want to sit in line I’ll just go home and call them late and ask what the line is like before going back.JonJon78 Thanks this.

You really want someone flat rate changing your oil?. You think you have troubles now…….
If you do it in an hour your changing oil and greasing and nothing more. That’s not how I service a truck.black_dog106, slim shady, jamespmack and 4 others Thank this. -
You can put your hands and eyes on just about everything on the truck as you’re greasing it. I understand an owner that is familiar with everything on his truck can move a little faster than a mechanic that sees a lot of different rigs, but three hours is pretty long. Hell, the three hours wouldn’t even be a problem out on the road though. It’s the 6 hour projected wait that turns into 12-15 hours before you can even get in anywhere these days.ProfessionalNoticer Thanks this.

3 hours to do a PM? That's preposterous. 2 hours...MAX.
