Drain it into old 5 gallon pails directly from the pan.

I bought a container from Dollar General. Big plastic with a lid. Had it on the Truck for a while, under the bunk in a large trash bag. Works great. It’s low enough to get under the axle. Large enough to hold the oil. I use it when at home. Too cold now. I change it on the road, at the TA or any Truckstop. Last time I used a box lined with a trash bag. The hardest part is refilling the oil jugs. I take them to the TA shop and dump it. I just put a quick drain on. Now I’ll just need 8 empty jugs to start with. Easy enough to find in trash bins on fuel islands. In the past I’ve used empty 5 gallon cooking oil containers found behind restaurants. They work great, along with a few empty jugs. The only negative I see using a quick drain, is the absence of a magnet. I’m working on that. A magnet in a funnel type thing. Shouldn’t be too hard to figure something out.

There are 15 gallon drain pans on Amazon for about $100 bucks last time I checked. I take the old oil to a recycling pit at my local dump. Also, get that EZ drain linked above they work great and make the process that much quicker and cleaner.

Change oil and both fuel filters every 10-12 thousand miles in the driveway. The price of having it done and risk of them screwing something up at a speedco or wherever is just to much. The kids who work at places like that aren't mature enough and many just don't care about any damage they could do to a guys livelihood.

If I put a quick drain valve on it. Could I just lay a magnit in the pan? I have to change the oil pan gasket anyway?

I had one of those EZ drain valves and it leaked from the valve and seeped from the seal up against the pan. Tried a Fumoto and no issues other than it's a little slower to drain than pulling the plug but it does save a bit of hassle. Makes it very neat and easy to fill a sample container for a lab report also.

I'm a firm believer that you should try to do as much of your own PM stuff as possible if it's your truck. That will pay dividends and who cares how long it takes.

That's what I'm trying to work my way towards. Meaning I agree. A lot of people in my neck of the woods burn oil. Is it safe to offer this oil to them?

Pretty much any auto parts store will take waste oil also as long as you don't need the containers back. I just pour off the old stuff into the bottles the new stuff came in. Older non-common rail engines can also burn it up as fuel if you add a couple gallons before filling the tanks to mix it up. Not a great idea this time of year but I'd do it in spring and summer with no issues. But nowadays I donate it. Like Oscar said a lot of people burn it as bunker fuel.
