Where is everyone #5

I bought a gallon of milk last night on the way home from work. Grocery store was dang near empty. Normally for 1 or 2 things I just use the self-checkout. Self-checkouts were all closed and only 1 lane was open. The lady and (who I assume was) her daughter had just started unloading their cart. The lady spotted me about 15 seconds after I got in line and said to me:

"I am so sorry! If the cashier hadn't already started scanning I'd have let you go ahead of me."

I just said don't worry about it, not like there are any big New Year's parties to go to. That got a laugh out of her. I guess there are still some considerate folks out there.

 

What about the people behind me who, like me, did things correctly and stood in line and waited? The only way to make that fair for all is to allow Karen to take your place and you go to the back of the line. But Mr Niceguy allowed them in behind me, I no longer had a dog in that fight. And no one else spoke up, so I tuned them out.

Guess I'm prick. If you try to cut, I'm saying something. Infront of me, or anyone. Now very good chance I'll invite you to go infront of me in a non Karen situation. Elderly, or just a guy or gal with a few items. I'd dont care about the people behind me. I made the decision. If its a problem, you can take it up with me. But Karen, or Chad's can go pound sand!

 

I only have one kid. Contemplating over the road life. Understood. I sleep better in the truck.

 

Fair? No it wouldn’t be fair to let her in front of you at that point, but what’s fair isn’t always the same as what’s just. I would like to take a closer look at what makes a “Karen” and why she behaves the way she does. Is it because she was born with a chip on her shoulder? Parents didn’t teach her proper manners, or no parents to begin with? In my experience the way people act reflects their experiences in this world; some when treated badly or met with tragedy turn cold, mean and bitter just like a bully bullies others to try and make themselves feel better because they’re not satisfied with themselves and/or because someone bullied them and they feel the need to take it out on others, maybe Karen has only ever known the cold, bitterly cold part of the world and doesn’t see or know of any reason to act differently; I’d be willing to bet if you had done as suggested and still let her in front of you she would have spit it right back in your face saying “I don’t need you to tell me what I can and cannot do, a hole”, but I guarantee you if not tomorrow or even the next day she’ll look back and realize just how rudely she behaved and then one day she’ll be just like the lady that @AModelCat said would have let him get in front of her if she had not already started paying for her items; it’s not about instant gratification or results to lessons taught, it’s about planting seeds of an idea that one day more and more people can live together in unison regardless of differences, past injustices, etc and having no hate for one another.
