Someone had to have made a solid front axle conversion for the 1981+ half ton Fords. The 78-79 were some of the best Fords ever made. Back in the day, I always looked at the Rockford military axles for my K5, but the gears were like 5:13:1. With a 400TH transmission, top speed would have probably been 30mph.

The conversion consists of a grinder, plasma cutter (if you're fancy), a welder and solid front axle, leafs and shackles/hangers.

Rockwell axles had a 6.17 gear ratio. There's atleast 1 company out there that makes 4.88 gears for them, possibly other ratios.

Nowadays, serious off road guys have stepped up to Axletech and other like style axles.

6:17s…couldn’t exactly remember the ratio. I just remembered that with a 3 speed auto it would have been geared far too low to be road worthy

Blew a trailer tire outside Le Roy, IL. Luckily I grabbed one of my rimmed spares from before leaving. Pulled into the loves here to have them swap it. Gave the girl all my info and she asked for the main office number. Said sure here it is. 1hr30 later I go in and she says hey I tried to call your office but nobody is answering. Asked her why.

"Well I need approval to do the work."

????? I'm standing right here I approve it. It's a spare mount not an engine rebuild. I'm paying cash or card or however you want. What do you need approval for? Also it's Saturday so nobody but me is working. Why would you not immediately call my cellphone and tell me you couldn't get an answer?

"Oh well you said it's not your trailer."

Well yeah it belongs to a buddy who let me borrow it since mine is occupied and I needed another.

"Yeah so I need company approval to do any work"

Sure whatever here's a cellphone number you can call. Called the owner and said just tell them yes to whatever.

Finally got it done 3.5 hours after getting here.

Like what the actual ####. It's a $32 job that I'm paying for. Who the hell cares if it's approved or not? It's a flat tire. You're a tire shop just fix it. Burned up half a day ####ing around.

Seems like some people just don't understand the simplest of things HUH?
But I Dad used to tell me If I never had a day that was bad like that , I wouldn't appreciate the good days. I would not say it but I always felt sure I would !! And today I love everyday I am alive , unless I hear a person I like or family isn't doing good. At least your tire is fixed! That is a good thing! :)
