Ok think of the fuel line as a two or three layered constuction. If the inner layer has deteriorated to the point that there is small areas that have come loose on2 or 3 sides and can flap around the. Lay flat under pressure and the outside layer is oil soaked and now has pinholes in it.if the two defects happen to line up then there will be no visible leak under pressure but will allow air in when there is no pressure. And if the interior flaps go the other way and flap under pressure then you have a restricted line. This is why more mechanics recommend changing all fuel li es every 5 to 7 years depending on vibrations due to road conditions and road chemicals.

I replaced all fuel lines on suction and return side, plus the tee. It didn’t fix the problem but now I can drive with confidence. These old lease roads ain’t friendly and I’ve seen more than one hand dead in the water cuz of a busted fuel hose.Westbound23, exhausted379, cke and 19 others Thank this. -

Before I started driving I was a yard guy and the “mechanic” at 19. We had a driver in that truck call in and say the clutch dropped to the floor and he was stuck in the intersection blocking half of us 169. I jumped in the bosses f250 with my tools and a chain. The sheriffs department were none to thrilled when I showed up 30 minutes late and said get this #### truck out of the way. We hooked up a chain and I got in the truck the other guy threw the bosses truck in 4 low and started hammering on it, spinning all 4 tires.
That when I got smart and slipped it into low hit the starter and drove it out of the way. We drove it back to the shop like that, running every stop sign the whole way back. Why the driver didn’t think of that I will never know. As a driver now it’s pretty obvious. Once I got it that truck I had to almost always shut it down to get it in gear.
