You could go to your post office an get a p.o. box, you have your mail sent to a family or friends house, you could get a box at one of them ups stores. You could also have to post office just hold your mail while you're gone, there's all kinds of things you can do. You could also get all your bills set up for online only and then your mail is pretty much nil.
simplyred1962 Thanks this. -
I know several full time RVers that use remail services to get their mail while they are on the road. Since they have no brick and mortar home, they also use these mail services to establish their state of residency. That being said, the states with no state income tax are popular for this - Texas, South Dakota, Tennessee and Florida all have big remail services located there.
They will receive your mail, hold it and sort it (to remove the junk mail). Then when you know in advance where you are going to be in a few days you call them and let them know, they pack the accumulated mail into a big envelope and send it to your name, c/o General Delivery, in whatever city you specify. Then you go into the post office with your photo ID and collect your mail.
That's not too hard for an RVer to know a week or so in advance where they are going to be. I imagine it would be much harder for a driver to know that far in advance. If you just have a day or two's notice, you can pay extra to have them FedEx the mail to you - but you pay the FedEx fees on top of the normal monthly fee.
The folks that I have met that have the best luck with these services gets as many of their bills as possible set up for on-line billing and payment. They cancel all their magazine subscriptions and have the remail service dispose of all the junk mail for them. Then they only have to send for the mail once or twice a month. Expect to pay $30 to $50 a month for the service. Check out some of the RV forums out there for info on the best of these services. Hope this helps. -
It's alot easier to set up online bill pay and have the rest go to a family member. You don't sit long enough like an RV'er to get your mail forwarded. I could see telling your dispatcher you have to sit an extra day because you are waiting on your mail?
Then you have the problem of getting to a post office.
HP9K, I don't know about establishing residency that way. If you do, by law you are required to have a drivers license in that state. TN, I know you need a mortgage statement or rental lease agreement, utility bill, voters registration card, car registration or title to get your license. Just giving them an address won't get it.
Of course you can slip through the cracks and claim your taxes with that address. But you aren't a legal resident because of it. -

I used one for three years. It was the address on my CDL. The state didn't have a problem with that. However, it's a business address. I wasn't able to register to vote from it. Also, the USPS won't forward mail from that address, either. Depending on the store, they may work with you to get your mail. Mine didn't. If I did it again, I'd think twice and do my best to have mail delivered to a friend or co worker.
