I know Peterbilt and Kenworth are up towards the top and compete for 1st place depending who you talk to...
I also know that Freightliner is down towards the bottom, again, depending who you talk to. (I always thought International was on the bottom.)
Then you have all the others. Mack, Stirling, Volvo, etc.
I was wondering, where does Western Star fit in with all these brands?
Where is (Western Star) located on the "Truck Brand Totem Pole?"

This thread should be interesting....
WildTiger1990, Veryblessed, bbechtel16 and 2 others Thank this. -
Why's that? Everyone's entitled to their opinion.

I think they're nice looking trucks. I've not heard good reviews (mostly griping about interior design & fit and finish). I imagine it depends on what your needs are.
I'd place em about in the bottom middle of the pack. -
They used to considered "Cadillacs" but since Freightliner took them over, it seems like they have lost some of their appeal. At least that's how I've always interpeted it. I've only ridden in one (in the 90's) and it seemed nice, but to me it's more on how a truck is spec'd and how it's been cared for rather then the brand.

Since they closed the plant in Canada and moved everything to Portland OR, they are really just a different model Freightliner.
Brickman Thanks this. -
Depends on what year you buy. If you get a 2003 or older, its just as good as a Kw if not better. If you get a newer one after the freightliner merger and the plant moved Oregon, near the bottom. Please don't comment unless you have drove all brands in question.
botoler Thanks this. -
Always thought they were a good tough truck. Not sure why they stuck with the steel cabs. I believe they're still one of the few companies you can actually order a custom truck, quad frame, tridem drive, dual drive steer axles ect.
Of course all this will probably change with Freightliner owning them. Just like Mack being owned by the parasite Volvo (AKA FisherPrice).botoler Thanks this. -
i think the cab and hood look good...dont know about interior of them never seen 1, but they have got
to be the ugliest sleepers ive ever seen (IMO)Elvenhome21 Thanks this. -
I owned a 2000 Freightliner Classic for 5 years and drove a 2006 WesternStar Low Max for a year after that. I now own a 2004 Star. Huge difference. The cab is quieter, the ride is way better, the doors close nice, fit and finish was very good. In the Star I could run without any air in the seat, the Classic would kill my back running like that.
I have heard the Canadian built ones are better, never seen it first hand though.
I would say they have to be in the top half.
