Hello to you all. I am new to the blog and the trucking life. I have no experience in trucking and I dont have a clue on where to get started. I live in richmond, va and there is a swift trucking academy here but I am skeptical because of some research I did. I have learned that some schools are scams and are not PTDI certified. Will it be hard to obtain a job after I get my license. I figure who would know more than the truckers themselves, so guys and gals please help me out. Thank you all

I would stay away from company schools if you can afford it. That way you won't be beholden to that company. Check out all the schools in the area. Ask what companies hire out of them, but be aware that can change.

If you aren't adventuresome, stay away from trucking. If you fear the unknown, stay away. If you hate the Greyhound Bus, stay away. This is your first and last warning !

Stay local for now so you won't waste your life waiting without pay for too few loads and too many trucks. Try beer trucks, dump trucks, I'd even go for a garbage truck job with Waste Management before I went OTR. At least you'll make an hourly wage in the double digits for your time. Your sitting will be at home with a beer and a hot lady, not a cramped truck,no beer, and no lady.
