I'm with MBI sand in Ross, ND and we get base pay guaranteed 40 hrs per week whether we work 40 or less. After 40 we get OT @ time and a half. Avg has been about sixty + hrs a week. Day drivers get $22/hr and nights make $25/hr. Man camp living is about $400/month. It's decent, but there are other higher paying jobs. What I like about MBI is that the medical and dental benefits kick in after 30 days of employment. Trucks are crazy old with 750k miles on a lot of them. The mechanics are pretty good at keeping them functional. Lot of old Petes. Frac pads are pretty big and easy to maneuver on. Lotta good guys to work with. I like the outfit and I would much rather get hourly pay than percentage, because I always run legal. Running percentage with some outfits, they try to push you past your legal limits, don't give in, it ain't worth risking your CDL. CZ

I agree it's not worth risking your cdl. With the csa 2010 you can really screw up your career.

That's funny, my TX DL has P.O. Box # on it. When I moved from Austin a couple yeras ago, I did change my address on line though, so that may make a difference. But the state has sent me official correspondence (vehicle registration renewals, etc.) at my PO Box, so obviously they recognize my PO Box as a legal address.

Schneider is paying $150 flat rate? Isn't that a little low? Also is that a flat $150 whether you drive or not? What happens if you show up for work and there isn't any, or no truck for you?

That dont sound right....$150 a day??? you should make that OTR with Schni (that's what I averaged out at when I did 48 state system van. I heard Schni tankers pays $192, that but that's just heresay.... sand should pay or average a minim of $183, otherwise water or crude hauling would be more favorable (unless you dont like the idea of rolling over) then food distribution would be another choice but their hours usually suck too, then 48 state at $41k-$45k with interstate, stevens, crete, or schni would be the best choice...unless you dont like having to deal with finding a parking spot.....either way, am almost done with sand hauling... I like the money and the other drivers, but......

I have been in the oilfield since 2006. I have hauled Belly Dumps, Side Dumps, 130 BBL Tankers, Flat Beds, Step Decks, Low Boys and currently Sand Cans. The company I currently work for doesn't care about your hours, logs or your welfare! All they want is their sand delivered to the Frac! I am in western Wyoming where the wildlife are the prominent traffic so driving times vary from rail head to location.
The only way to make decent money with this company is to drive over your hours (ie...ILLEGAL). At first I didn't mind fudging my logs a bit to make 2 rounds (each load pays $150) but it became 16 hrs, 18 hrs and 20 hr days! If you are single the only person you have to provide for is yourself, but if you are a family man, like me, you have to take them into consideration.
The company I work for doesn't put a gun to your head but they do push drivers to go over on their hours. You have to be the one to say NO! The money isn't worth it when you are dead!
I also am looking for a good company to work for but of the 4 companies I have been with in 7 yrs, they all say one thing and do something else. Safety is only important in the class room to them!
If you find a good paying company that cares for you and pays decent please let me know.
I am currently looking for a flatbed company that runs the western states but so far the big companies are only paying $.35/mi and only home 2 days our of 3 weeks. Not much for a family man.

And I was under the impression that these hellish jobs in hellish locations actually paid great money. I guess we all should define "great" money first. Personally, it would take a job paying me $150K to $200K annual take home. If you wanted to get me to pick up and move into an RV parked in a frozen mud hole in ND. You mean people really do it for only $60K per year? I just can't see it happening, especially with the higher costs of living to consider, too.

Both companies I have worked for promised the world. Both times it was great when things run smooth on pace for around 150 -175k . Then they have problems with the fraction or the locations get a lot farther than when I was hired . Paid by the load or mile this is a problem . By the hour with o.t. is the way to go . But unsteady work seems to be nature of the beast in energy industry . I think chances are , still more money to be made than otr or p&d .

Hey mgrib, didn't expect to see you in here. I am in your old truck now, I am also looking for a REAL job, unlike the Bull you just left. I have orientation with Interide out of SLC next week.
Did you find another job? Where at?

I was the new guy when you left. :)
