I still use Dino oil t4 because I can change it every month (10k-12k miles) at a reasonable rate. I hope the oil/filter, fuel filter, fuel/water seperator change every month will help prolong the life of the engine

Is the use of synthetic in Canada the norm due to weather?

    Oxbow and Pamela1990 Thank this.

Very likely. We also have wide temperature swings, from 42⁰C to -48⁰C.
Its doubtful that many drive in such a wide temperature range.
We do weird things in this area. At the end of the day all winter, when parking in the yard, I pop the truck's park brake, get out and chock the tires, then climb back in and release the brakes. Why, so the brakes don't freeze on. Then i put on my roof, windshield, and hood cover, so they don't turn into a ball of ice sitting overnight if it snows, or freezing rain. Just undo the 8 straps, and pull it off as part of my pretrip.

Wow. Thats a whole different world. I’ve done the brake thing myself, just on the trailer parking for the night.

when the high temperature for the day is negative Fahrenheit , the synthetic has a comfort factor….. it’s only money.

Not to mention cold starts…. But if it’s -10F or colder I leave mine running even if I’m in the house sleeping……

Mine is a 1999 379. I don't do extended oil changes and never will. So I run regular oil. My oil changes really vary because I change it when I get home. So one month I might have 10k on the oil and the next month might be 15k or so.

I do the same here, but I don't cover my windows, I just leave my espar running. I never turn it off. Solves alot of problems.

You should look into an oil/water heater and recirculation pump. Alot less wear and fuel usage.

    Pamela1990 Thanks this.

Got a block heater…. But when it’s really nasty…. I’ll shut it off for 3-4 hours then after dinner start it put it on high idle and leave out in the early am . Nice and toasty
