No road test for doubles unless the company that hires you ,have you go on a linehaul run where another driver will walk you thru it.

A hidden secret in this business is Coke, Pepsi and most of the beer companies hire new guys like crazy. It is hard work and actually will hone your driving skills very quickly. However, when you have a job with Coke, Pepsi, Beer or Food you do much more then drive that's about a 1/4 of your job. The rest of your job you are pretty much the entire company to your customers. To those people you are the company. If you get on with Gordon Food Service Chain Alliance Division they flat out tell you, that you are the company to those chain restaurants, your the only human being those customers see, your the office, truck driver, customer service person and sales person all rolled into 1 nice neat little package. Professional appearance and positive attitude and professionalism are required and a must.

Well LTL does not necessarily mean local... I think you are looking for a local/regional job?

There are plenty of OTR jobs at less than a truckload, not something I was ever interested in. LTL might only drive you 2-400 miles between stops with a big ole' $25/stop or something like that. With LTL, you're more likely to have a "driver unload" or have to hire lumpers, and a lot of LTL loads will keep you waiting for the live unload for a multitude of reasons. All LTL does is waste your driving hours on the bottom line, which you don't get paid for. Would you rather run 2-400 miles/day when you can do 5-600?

....start off as a docker driving fork lift loading wagons , then push for the yd switcher job ,casually let the boss know you are thinking about getting a cdl ( no cdl required to drive switcher ) get good at switching yd wagons around , then casually mention you need to get a cdl ....this will take about 2 yrs to do ....LTL dock workers start out at around $15 hrly
OTafter 40 ,healthcare package,401k ,paid vacations , ......but you will earn it !!! It's a fast paste job
But drivers make upwards of $25 hrly ,OT after 8 .....i think linehaulers are getting 60cpm and clocktime at terminal turn and go back to home terminal

.....that's why we don't work by the load , ...yes sometimes we have push frt off the load , but at the end of the day ,we park the truck at the barn ,go home to our wives&children , we have bigger muscles & more home cooked dinners
And it's all paid in full by the hr. for an honest days work or you're butt is gone !
