Not if it's thick enough. If it flops around that means it's not strong enough to support an antenna. It needs to be thick enough and wide enough to provide enough structural support for the antenna.

 

I did something similar on a Kenworth W900 a long time ago. I used quarter inch by 4 inch to wrap around the fairings. That was slightly Overkill. 3/16 would have been fine

 

i do not think it will work better than a predator...i know it will --------their are much better antennas out there than a predator of any kind....on a field strength meter they really do not perform all that well....................

 

The Predator 10 k is a well made bottom load antenna. Anything with a longer shaft will outperform it though

If you had a "Predator 10K" antenna that had a PVC insulator on it, then it wasn't a Predator 10K antenna, but rather some knock-off, or just a open coiled antenna that looked similar to a Predator 10K.

"ALL" Predator 10K antenna's have always been made using Delrin for the insulator...I've been using these antenna's, and have known Kale Cavel since 2000 and have never know him to make a antenna using PVC...

 

A bottom loaded antenna would be something like a Wilson 5000 trunk mounted or roof mounted antenna that has the coil at the base of the antenna...Predator 10K's would be more of a center-load antenna...
