See if you can contact your services to a HCR Mail Contract Carrier. I've talked to a couple O/O Tractor Trailer Drivers and a lot of them do it this way instead of bidding on routes. Clifford B Finkle is big around the NYC/North Jersey area and they use a lot of straight trucks. I think Postal Transport owns Finkle and I've seen them hauling Beam Bros Trailers as of lately. I don't know if they got some of Beam Bros work because Eagle Express Lines took over Beam Bros.

If you do get contracted with a Mail Contract Carrier, the work is very easy. Most of them pickup Mail at the smaller Postal Stations that Tractor Trailers can't fit in. They do everything from picking Mail, Parcels, FSS Flats, BMEU, Air Port Express (which can NEVER EVER be late), and so on and so forth. Everything is on wheels, so you just push the Mail off. Very simple work.

Thanx a lot I will check them out sounds like easy work. I have seen a few of those mail listings on craigslist and I think most of that work is at night. So the truck can do mail at night and other work in the day with another driver.

You can also try Fed Ex as well. They have a big terminal by Newark Airport. Fed Ex Custom Critical and Fed Ex Ground hire Straight Truck Independent Contractors/Owner Operators. But word to the wise though, they recently got sued and had to pay out $227 million for misclassification of job title. But it MAY be an option, if they can ever figure out WHAT an Independent Contractor actually is.

lol... I'm in a lawsuit with a different company right now over the same thing they wanted to treat me as an employee but pay me as a contractor. Hopefully that money will buy my next 2 trucks lmao...

Everytime I've been there it was with a 53' trailer, what you're considering doing would be a hell of a lot easier. Still don't envy you lol but best of luck in your quest

This question is for my fellow owner operators working in or around NYC: I have done all my research and know what is need to get started. I am in the process of getting my dot numbers and buying a 26 foot truck with lift gate. I see a lot of postings on craigslist for local work, but are there any other places I can get local delivery work for my truck? I am buying either a freightliner m2 106 or a International 4300 both are going to be under 26,000 lbs as I don't have a CDL. Any help finding other sources for work would be helpful. Are you kidding?

There is a Fed installation about 90 feet down below one of the streets in your town. In that installation is gold and other valuables.

Your truck will do well with that. Sans armor, gaurds, rifles etc.

If I had a box truck in NYC and wanted to find it work, I would talk to McKesson first. They run narcotics to hospitals etc. Im pretty sure you can whip up a nice gravy contract to deliver the dam things to hospitals and such.
