"newer breaking systems & new laws about different cargo distributions for the type of cargo/variety in the trailer" The laws may have changed they always do.......but I doubt they changed the test to reflect those changes. Many DVM tests still have a Wig Wag in their vocab .......something that has not been used for years!
where to get CDL book other than the internet, and where to test

The way it's been explained to me is some of the things in the pre-Dec 2010 release are illegal to do/set up. And some of them are incomplete regarding regulations on braking.
At least that's what I've been told, which is why I've been shying away from that specific issue. (Because of having to relearn something you've already learn to do it totally differently or not at all, can prove difficult) -
Where are you attending school? -
They also did a small overhaul of the Driver Liscense book for people to get their regular drivers license (if you already have your license it doesn't matter, but it matters for those getting it who don't already have it). At the Office I went to today, they even had mini-pamphlets to accompany the book itself stating what to ignore in the book, and what to change wording wise, and the difference in some of the traffic laws.
Which pre-Dec 2010 issues for the CDL book is supposed to have with them, to my understanding.
And no school in particular I know of. I was hoping to go into the Teamster Or IUOE.
It was a person I talked to regarding the Teamsters who told me about the above initially because they had guys fail their CDL tests because they themselves didn't know the changes until testing time. -
Sorry man, don't know what to tell you. I'd go ahead and start studying the current guide if it was me. I'll see if anyone knows about any changes in class tomorrow.
Good luck to ya. -
It might just be because it's "new" since it's Jan 5th, and changes were made late december, might just be that the new CDL stuff isn't in wide circulation just yet. -
Most state constitutions require that if you change any testing criteria for positions that require a license, like a realtor or barber that the study materials have to be available long before the changes are included in the test. I don't know if this would include DMV tests?

I found out today that the CDL guide being issued at the DOL (Bellevue) and the one online were published 06/10 and are the most current issue.
The instructor at my school agreed that there were some changes made during '10, but that this guide should be sufficient for taking the current tests.
Hope that helps. Best of luck to ya...
