I'll be moving in a few weeks (around Sept 12-15th) and need to decide where. Right now I live in Florida. As soon as we move I will be applying at a few companies as a newbie trucker. Here are my requirements:

    1. Must have manufacturing for my wife to find work.
    2. Good schools for my 7 year old.
    3. Near major trucking lines so I get home once-twice a month.
    4. Cheap rent but nice places and neighborhoods.
    5. Want to stay in the South East so limits are Alabama to the west and Tennessee and North Carolina to the north.
    6. Want smaller city or larger town so NO to Atlanta.

If you post me an area to look at, please include the name of any manufacture you know of in that area.

    Thanks!!

dont do him that way.traffic is awful, cost of leaving tax, rent, etc is crazy,on the news evernight crime, shootings, stabings, its always something.and would never send my kids to school in the big cities. much rather live in country be safe at night and not worry for one sec. while my kids are at school.

McMinnville SHelbyville, Tullahoma or Manchester Tn. You have Bridgestone, Sharpie, Ewell, Rubbermaid, Federal Mogul, Calsonic Kensei, JSP plastics, Rock Tenn, Nissan(Decherd) 30 minutes to Murfreesboro (maybe an option but to big for me) with literally hundreds of plants and warehousing.

I too would steer clear of Nashville as well, and Shelby County(Memphis) while good being on a cross road of corridors the populace is :biggrin_25513: Think Tampa/ St. Pete area without the retirees.

I talk to a guy over in Cleveland time to time that likes it over there(north of Chattanooga on 75) but could not testify as to schools.

Iam not as familiar with Tennessee, so thanks for the advice. I will look into those areas. Some of the areas I am looking at include Greensboro and Charlotte, NC, Greenville, SC and Birmingham, Al. I have enough cash on hand for my family to make the move, for me to get through a school to get my CDL and pay bills for about 3 months. So a big part of this will be moving somewhere my wife can find work and cost of living is low. My wife's back ground is 20 years in electronic manufacturing, mostly in quality departments.

Dell (and I have no idea if they are hiring) has a plant Nashville. Along with a few computer repair (like mail in repair for manufacturers) Quanta comes to mind in SMYRNA,LaVergne area.

That is south east Nashville give or take.Really about the midway point of Nashville/Mufreesboro Easy but longish commute from like Smithville, Manchester or Lebanon.

Huge Solar Panel plant going up in Chattanooga/Cleveland area but just had ground broken this spring so probably not soon enough.

    Wacker Chemical I believe.

There are a few places on the Internet that may help if you do a Google search. Some of the sites will give crime statistics for your selected area, etc.

This site is a good place to start. http://www.findyourspot.com/

Perhaps this site will help. Best of luck to you and the family.

look at Fort Mill, SC. Its 30 minutes south of Charlotte, NC so close enough to go and do stuff.

SC cost of living is amoung the cheapest in the country (im moving down there myself)

AND Fort Mill, SC has the BEST schools in NC/SC!

Almost all companies hire out the NC/SC
