This is why my first advice to anyone considering trucking is STAY OUT OF CDL SCHOOL UNTIL YOU FIND WHO TO WORK FOR. Which school one goes to is not important. How one pays for school is not very important. Where to work is the biggest decision of your trucking career.WhiskeyEchoBravo and newfriend Thank this.

Decide how long you can be away from home. Be specific in your own mind.
Decide what type of trailers/freight you want to pull. I wouldn't pull refrigerated/reefer for $20/mile and a month vacation.
Decide how much of the country you want to visit or avoid.
Decide how much money you need to make.
Decide which will you pick if given a choice between money/time at home.
Decide how much time are you willing to spend EVERY trip driving back AND forth to the truck. Don't volunteer to spend hours commuting and getting home every week or more often. You have to do the round trip ON YOUR FREE TIME.
Under no circumstance consider CR England or dedicated dollar type stores whatever their name may be,newfriend Thanks this. -
You can satisfy the Entry-Level Driver Training for the HazMat endorsement online Here is the official list of training providers. Search for the online training providers. Last I looked there were almost 200 online training providers. The one I looked at was charging $200 for the online HazMat course. Training Provider Registry

I agree with most of that .
but I don’t agree with deciding on which company before you go to school
I know folks that went to the community college and got job offers from recruiters at good companies
getting tue CDL is the first step but you need all the endorsements for the flexibility.
my neighbor attended the local community college and there was a recruiter there from a small company that does heavy haul oversize . and they were hiring drivers right out of the class.
The company has a 9 month training program . And a very intense background investigation that only 3 of the 27 students were eligible to apply for and only one of the three ( my neighbor ) went to the trouble of filling out the background application.
He successfully finished their 9 months training and has been doing up to 12 wide and 120,000 lb loads for three years , and
He is now in their training for 16 foot wide loads , and 13 axle 200,000 lb super loads. And he hasn’t had his 24th birthday yet .newfriend Thanks this.
