No disrespect to the o.p. or anyone else, but this is just one more reason on a colossal list of reasons why I despise Peterbilt.

That is pitiful. Pay crazy outrageous sums of money for a truck and you can't even contact them for parts because they are only an assembler instead of being a manufacturer. No customer support whatsoever. No customer service whatsoever. That means they could care less about the customer.

That's insane. I give Freightliner a part number and they have it to me within a day. My truck is 25 years old.

I have a 1995 Freightliner. Freightliner has something called dtna connect.

I go online and all of my part numbers drawings everything that I need is right there specific to my truck.

Or if I give them the last 6 of my vin they will look up the parts for me.

Again, no offense to anyone that has those trucks or likes them, but Peterbilt sucks in more ways than I can count.

All truck manufacturers just assembled trucks. Its only been in the last 10-15 years that they started going proprietary with everything. My dad used to buy parts for his W900A at the International and Volvo dealers because they were closer than the Kenworth dealer.

well its not exactly $200 saving. Its $404 for a rebuild kit or $1200 for a brand new unit.
Or get the rebuilt/remaned one for $742. Its just them rebuilding it instead of me at that piont lol

I think ill just spend the time tomorrow pulling off my brake valve and checking it out. But as far as the fan clutch I cant exactly source individual parts. The truck works 6 days a week :/

That's the kicker, I can let my truck sit while I figure stuff out and order parts off the internet. Most guys can't, and there's nothing wrong with either way. It's just a matter of weighing the cost/benefit

I also like working on things, when I have the time. I'm a carpenter by trade so doing mechanical stuff is a mostly relaxing hobby for me. I know mechanics that do woodworking as a hobby. Funny how that works

Your post doesn't help the OP

It actually doesn't help anyone, We're talking about trucks that are between "classic" and "vintage" in age. There's no telling what the next 30 years will bring. Frightliner could easily do the same thing and end support

Any Pete dealer can look up parts on a truck well back into the 80's. Sounds like a specific dealer issue rather then a Peterbilt issue. I have multiple customers running 90s and a few running 80s trucks still getting parts no issue. We even work on late 80s petes occasionally.

I will say it does suck not having a customer portal to look up parts, it always has to be handled by the dealer.

It varies area to area. My local Pete dealer is best priced and has most knowledgeable parts staff in the area. The Freightliner dealer is okay @ best. Local Volvo/Mack dealer is useless, they even struggle when you give them a P/N.
