Hey guys, this is my first thread here been been reading the forums for a wile now tell i finally started my own account i have just registered to start taking a class for my CDL at my local community collage. class is to start on Dec 2nd, and everything and everything is going smoothly have it paid for have my books physical and permit in hand ready to start. only gave my self a month to get everything together for this was kind of a spur of the moment kind of jump even tho i have been wanting to do this for some time now... how ever i have some questions now that i have some time before class starts and even up to completing class im sending in my info to these companies for my pre hires. just based on what i have read on these forums and the internet as a whole I do have some places in mind as to were to start.
so my question is this, im 24 years old no experience and not much of a preference for i know the first year wont be nothing more then getting my experience. the companies have my eye on is Crete/Shaffer for i live in Omaha, NE mainly the only reason they are picked as my number one company to start with prime inc, and Stevens transports being next i like either or on that part seems like with these to options its a trade off on what ill get either more money and a small truck or a nice truck and less money... with that being said as a back up to those three companies i have knight,Schneider and roehl in mind just in case my top three dont call me.
so what do you guys/gals think i should do or were i should go I do want to go OTR even Canada if i get a passport that is no prob reefer and dry-van is ok even tanker is no prob don't much want flatbed even tho if it comes to it i may just hit up TMC since they are so close to me and i do like there trucks any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and i thank you for you time to read and reply to my thread. and on a side note sorry for the grammar issues lol![]()

Here's some more to check that hire new CDL grads:
JBS Carriers
Melton Truck Lines
K&B Transportation
You mentioned Schneider-they have a tanker division.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
My first driving job was with Stevens and I've never regretted it one bit. Their OTR training program is the best in the industry. It's longer than others programs, but worth it in my opinion. Safety is top priority
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
so is Milton prefferd over TMC as far as flat bed goes?
and yeah 8thnote i do like stevens for there training i dont much care if its long or not tbh and i really love there trucks lol -
Im new just out of school....i just finished with a trainer and i have my own truck now. Im with shaffer. .35 cpm that is nore than you will find as a new hire. .42 cpm after one year. They really work with u on hometime as long as u let them know about a week in advance. Great benefits. Id go with them
Nightwind8830, blairandgretchen and Tracks Thank this. -
You'll get all different opinions. One flatbed company not mentioned much here is Boyd. My bf is still with his trainer with them but they have been good to him so far. Not sure if your in their hiring area but you can check. So far my bf is home every other weekend (his trainer lives in TN and goes home the other).
Good luck whatever you choose to do and good luck at school. -
