the only reason i revived this thread was because it was 2 years ago, and just wanted an up to date comment per any company policies that may have changed, thats all. not a very popular discussion when using the search tool. this is off topic, but was told last night not to take the cdl permit ahead of time because im going to get a permit for texas, but would it be ok to take the dot physical before i go or do they prefer you to take it onsite at school?

Well Id say call the company and ask what they want. SNI had me get a physical and drug test before I even started training. I dont think companies do DOT physicals onsite, unless they bring one in...but I havent heard of that.

I think they would probably want you to do the physical before hand because that assures them you would get it and could work for them.

I wont work for a company that would not allow me to take the truck home. I also expect that they will have a driver that I can meet up with give me a ride to the yard. If not I wont work for them away. But I discuss this with them before I apply. If they say no, then I would not waste my time filling out the application.

The topic of trucks left at truck stops,, the T/A on I 90 in washington state, i have tried to park there many times, and as you drive thru there you can see trucks there that were there a few days prior to a week prior and not moving, drivers that live close and leave trucks and trailers there, hence no parking for drivers overnight, kinda sucks, but this isnt the only truck stop i have seen this at.

The majority of drivers don't even possess vehicles. Depending on who your pulling for, many terminals have drivers parking. You may find that having someone drop you off is less stressful on you. That way your only issue is coordinating your return time with them versus you concered about if your car was broken into, towed, vandalized or what have you.
I'm jealous of the drivers that have those big houses with room for their tractors (ha ha ha) I guess thats when I'll know I've progressed.

oh.....you'd be surprised to know how many drivers are working homeless too. I mean have no home outside the truck. We all work for different reasons.
