Here you go, I got a job for you. Notice the last line. They DON'T team they train

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MY TRAINER?
Expect a professional, hard-working, dedicated driver that will teach you everything you need to know before hitting the road solo. Your Trainer will be providing you constant feedback and support the entire time you drive. We TRAIN. We do not Team.

Truck Driving School - Earn your CDL with Keller Trucking

They will pay for your CDL school. Then you go with a trainer and they don't team they train. They hire drivers from PA. They don't go to the northeast or NYC. Harrisburg PA is about as far east as they go

Its not training if the trainer is in the bunk asleep - its team driving.

Schneider does a week with a trainer however you will probably be doubled up with another studens and you may or may not stay in hotels instead of the truck.

Funny, that is almost PRECISELY what my first trainer did as we came out of Jacksonville, FL. Watched me drive for about twenty minutes on the interstate, then hopped into the bunk for a nap.

Good thing I went to a GOOD school and actually had a minor clue or two. I came off my trainer's truck essentially self trained. Even filled out my own "trainer evaluations". Worked for me, WON'T work for many.

I also completely disapprove of team style "training". Nothing is taught, the student is just a second log book for some stupid knucklehead "trainer" who can'r make enough money running a legal log.

Schneider or any of the companies Chinaman listed will fit your needs in terms of training. Go thru, call them all and find which fits you the best.

To all the "you need 30,000 miles with a trainer" folks - [insert giant rasberry sound].

How much teaching/learning is being done running down the highway? Very little after the first week.

How much rest is the trainer getting if he has to get up and help the trainee 4 or 5 times during their shift?

If you already have your cdl when you get to orientation, and you can't learn what you need in 7-10 days on the road, you aren't going to make it in this industry. The new driver will make mistakes, but they will make similar mistakes with or without a trainer in the bunk. Even if a guy gets "trained " for 6 months, he's STILL GOING TO SCREW UP, usually as badly as a 4 week guy.

So, I guess you've NEVER taken a BUS, TAXI, FLIGHT, SUBWAY, OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT TRANSPORTED YOU ON THE ROADWAY, AND IF YOU DID.... YOU KNEW THEM WELL?

    Gotcha.

o_OHello. I’m here at McDonald’s. Or Walmart. Or any other place in this world applying for a job. For the first four to six weeks I can only work if you have someone hold my hand for my entire shift. It doesn’t matter if I can do it in my own as time progresses. I will need you to pay a second person to look over my shoulder every second of every day that I’m working for the first month.
As far as I know that’s not how any job in this world works. Just my opinion…o_O

I can understand the OP’s concern. Most training companies will run the truck like a solo truck for the first few days at least. Some may do this longer. Then as the student gets more comfortable and confident in their abilities the truck will run like a team truck. Even as you’re running as a team, any half decent trainer sleeps with one eye and one ear open so if there is any issue they are in that jump seat immediately. They’re also getting up and helping anytime you need to back the truck or checking in at shippers/receivers etc. need help going thru the weigh station? Wake em up. Made a wrong turn? Wake em up. Got any question that needs an immediate answer? Wake em up. But also remember that they need to drive a full shift too, probably at night, after getting up multiple times throughout your shift to help you. So if it’s something you can wait for an answer for, let them sleep. As far as the companies making big money off students, there’s nothing you can do to change that. Comes with the territory. Be happy that the student pay has increased quite a bit since some of us started years ago.
    Keep on truckin!

The risk of an employee screw up at McDonald's, Walmart, etc cannot be compared with a new driver driving an aircraft carrier down the expressway. How can you with a straight face compare the risk involved in property and lives to a person serving hamburgers?
