Unfortunately I've lost pretty much my whole family the last one I had was my brother who passed away in march
I have a terrible job and have decided to go otr
I don't have a cdl so I need the training
I've narrowed down my options to 2 companies and would like to know what current drivers think is the better one
Pam
Swift
I've talked to others but these 2 would work out perfectly
Thank you
No idea why I said 3 in the title
Which company is the best of these 3

First, I am very sorry for your loss. I wish I had better words of comfort but I am sorry.
As far as trucking companies......I am sure chinatown will be along shortly,
What part of the country do you live? Do you have your CDL currently? Really need more info to help.
Have you looked into Roehl? I have been there a year now and can attest they are a great place to start. Great training, and they keep you moving. -
Out of curiosity, what led you to narrow down to those two options? (Swift and Pam) Given all the many dozens of decent options currently out there, those two rising to the top seem a bit "off". Maybe it's terminal locations?
Also, go to a nearby truck stop and pick up several of the "driver job" publications out front. These will give you a sense of the magnitude of other [OTR] offerings there are, plus there's all the various "local" options that probably exist that are unique to your location but these will have to be sought out. (These local and smaller options that may exist won't simply fall in your lap) -
OK thank you for the condolences first of all very much appreciated
to answer your questions
I live in North Carolina near Charlotte
No cdl currently just a dot physical
I did look into Roehl they don't hire from this area
Ive talked to Stevens and Jim Palmer I was excited about Jim Palmer but they contacted my current employer and pretty much destroyed me with lies -

You said 3 in the title, because subconsciously, you are looking for a 3rd option! And you should be. In my humble opinion, you should go to your local community college or vo-tech. One of them around will have a driving program. Most of them also have some form of job placement assistance. This approach will offer you a significantly larger number of options. Your career transition will take time, sacrifice, and money either way. Better to have better training and more options. The company I'm with would hire you after a good school. And while we do train a few guys, we are not a "starter company". Lots of companies like us out here. Not a starter company but still a great place to start.

Just different ends of the same turd.
freightwipper, Dave_in_AZ and 6daysontheroad Thank this. -
Is there not some training assistance programs for those interested in attending driver vocational training schools? While there are many carrier options that offer "free training" (along with a commitment to them), there are plenty who will take a new CDL holder without an "indentured servant" commitment.
So, consider getting your own schooling but begin collecting names of carriers who will honor the schooling. Also, many of these will "reimburse" much or all of your schooling costs [over time] if the money was not granted to you. -
freightwipper Thanks this.
