As a recent graduate and just got my CDL, I have 2 companies that would be my choice of pick for starter, Roehl or KLLM, so which do you think is best for me? Both offers tuition reimbursement, only KLLM starts 32 cpm and Roehl starts .28 cpm, and gonna be 9 months before hitting 32 cpm.
So I'm kinda leaning toward KLLM, should I?
Which company should I choose?

My understanding with Roehl was that they slip seat. I think KLLM is assigned equipment, isn't it? If that is the case go for KLLM.

What about JBS? Watkins Shepard?

The cold hard truth is that all companies are alike.
The difference is in the details...like one pay less on straight pay but pays more for stops or layover or down time or one wants you to do the Per Diem thing .
Don't just look at per mile pay look at the whole company. Look at what equipment they use like flat, refer, dry van, tank.
Ask who their biggest customer is , ask what are their main freight routes.
Ask what is the average age of their drivers , ask what is the average length of employment for their drivers.
Ask about the dispatchers length of time with the company.
Ask if you can talk to the man the is in charge of the terminal any time you would happen to be in and wish to speak with him.
Ask if you get paid while your truck is the shop.
Ask if the recruiter works for the company and how long they have been doing it. Ask if they ever drove for the company.
You get the idea just ask a million questions. Remember you are trying to decide if they are GOOD ENOUGH for you to work with ! Not just them deciding on you ! -

Go with Roehl. I don't want the competition at KLLM... hehehehehee

Currently at KLLM any more than 6 days home (or even on a scheduled vacation) and your truck is re-assigned.
Not sure if you get it back, or what.
Of course, if you lease, It is all yours baby! As well as your company truck may be called in to go to a lease at any time... as far as I know. It is a worry for me.

So if you were to leave early you can take your programs and sometimes put into the new companies programs if you do it right. If not you'll need a CPA to set up some IRA's for you and he'll explain all there is to know about them. Don't screw around like most do when they are young and blow off these deals. The little amount you put into your plans can make you very rich when it's time to stop working. I wished I would have dumped more.BigJon310 Thanks this.
