I am considered to be a graduate student however I have had 18+ years as a tractor-trailer operator in the Marine Coprs. Also served as an instructor for 6 years.

Right now I am at a cross road between 6 companies that I have an opportunity to start with. Now we all know we have to start somewhere and I have spent the last 3 days reading these threads.

The companies I have to choose from are: KLLM, Swift, Werner, USA, TransAm, and CRST. My choices would be in that order. TransAm is 5th due to automatic, CRST 6th because as a last resort I would do team's.

So with that said I am open to any suggestion anyone of you may have. All I ask is try to keep it as positive as possible. Every company out there have their bad moments. I believe life is what you make of it. How we apply ourselves will determine what we get from life.
    Sincerely,

Is that 18years experience current? I would think that you would be considered experience and not have to start out at the very bottom...not saying finding a job would be any easier, but I would think your military expereince would count for a lot more?

I only have to wonder how many applications Watkins Shepard has on file since there has been so much good said about them .
RoadWarrior1775 have you checked with a state Veterans' Agent for employment assistance ? They may know of a good local company .

I want to get at least a year OTR before I do anything local. I have been all over the world via the Marine Corps now I would like to see my country via the cab of a truck.

I did talk with Watkins and they are not hiring out of Virginia.

OTR companies are hiring? Where is this magical freight coming from? And the drivers are getting steady miles? Watch out for the LIE, then the other LIE and than then the LIE after that one. There is some truth somewhere but if they aren't willing to put it in writing then it is still a LIE.

Good Luck Marine. I wish you well but please exercise common sense with this companies.

Road Warrior I would not limit my self to those companies. I am a Gas Hauler and my company recognises military experiance, but it is local work. My point is that there are Companies that recognise military experiance. The teminal I work out of half the drivers are retired military and I am the only retiree that wasn't in the Transportation field. IN fact the only thing I drove was one foot in front of the other. Even though you are Marine Corp and I was Army you will still be joining the Faternal order of the Bulue ID card.

I know this is off base but when I got out it was a smack in the face I felt lonely out here. I went through 3 companies in a year and a half. The company I am with now for I have been with over a year and I fell like I have finally found a home. It has career oppertunitys outside of the truck and being career military that is huge for me.

Again off topic Good luck on fileing your disabillity claim, if you haven't done it shame on you.

    RoadWarrior1775 Thanks this.
