I recently retired from my job and I am looking forsomething completely opposite of my previous career. So, the trucking industry seems appealing(thus far) due to the ability to see the country and play a role in thedelivery of anything we touch.
Here is the question: Which company do I sign with? Werner,Stevens, Prime, USA, Schneider and Swift have all offered me a position. Swift has offered me a dedicated route withDollar Tree and ensure Ill be home every weekend and one night during the workweek. Prime seems to have better pay butlight weight trucks with no room. Stevens appears to be a stable company with nice rigs and offers decentmiles. Werner I am not too sure aboutand the same goes for USA. I cant seemto find much about Schneider other than their rigs are governed low.
Any advice regarding the best company would be greatlyappreciated. Thanks
Which company to sign with????

well the dollar store account can be back breaking, and if you screw up, then you will be going OTR or the unemployment line.
for me, if offered a job that gets me home often, i would take it, and DO MY BEST to keep it.
that's my recommendation. -
thank you. your advice is appreciated

May want to check out Epes transport. Best of luck !

given what you said Swift,Stevens and Schneider, prob in that order. But find out whats involved in the Dollar tree run. Also recruiters will lie from time to time,
just a little,
usually only when their lips are moving

Every mega-carrier out there is going to tell you they run at least 2500 a week and that there trucks are some of the newest in the industry! They will also all embellish home time! Make a list of your wants and needs and try to just match up with a company that is the closest to your demands.
Not sure what you meant by "light trucks"?
I have heard that the Dollar Tree type accounts are a decent gig but have also heard that you need to have seniority to get them. It is hard work but would actually be good to have some exercise while out on the road. I know they use those roller ramps to unload product so it would pretty much be a matter of setting up the ramps and chucking boxes. Though personally I don't know if I could hack that in Phoenix summertime setting!
Personally I would recommend Central Ref. to you. One reason being that we drove for them for quite sometime and had a very good experience with them. They really go above and beyond to help their drivers succeed and if you ever have a problem they are very good at working with you to solve it. That was important to us! They are large enough to keep you busy, yet small enough to treat you like a human being instead of a number. Your dispatcher is going to be your number one key to your success and their driver/dispatcher ratio is pretty good. I know for sure they have a yard there in Phoenix so getting home wouldn't be a big problem and you would have somewhere to park your truck when you are at home. Though they would ship you off to Salt Lake for training. Not a big deal, they pay for everything, transportation, lodging, meals, school etc... Their terminal up there is pretty impressive too!
Like I said though, you need to do your research and decide for yourself what company is best for you.
Good luck....ramkatral Thanks this. -
If I did it all over, I'd go to Schneider. I rarely see them bad mouthed here, much less than the other mega carriers.
