The company I work for is using the XATA turnpike program on our android tablets in the trucks and once you do your post trips it will grey out the drive line and then you could drive for as long as you like, even on the sleeper line and not trip the clock ever.

Yours would not be the first to discover this propensity. There's probably hundreds of carriers that USED to provide a "Line 5" option but figured out early that too many would abuse it too frequently and too flagrantly, so they took it out altogether.

Line 5 is a nice and reasonable option just to use as intended but it rarely lasts if there is a safety department that gives a dam.

Every one will have the option. Some companies will not allow it so they will turn it off. If your an o/o you get to chose duration of time.

Understand there are several tricky ways to interpret the rule. Example former company dinged me for this.

I was in Laredo dropped a trailer at the yard. Was dispatched on another load at that point. I drive "off duty-driving" to H.E.B. then returned to get my new loaded trailer. New girl said because I was under dispatch at the time that I couldn't use "off-site driving". Got it straightened out with supervisor.

Here's the rule. Have fun with it. Key words, under dispatch, relieved of duties, and unladened.Regulations Section
